After a total elevation change of around 8000 feet over close to 17 miles, you really get an appreciation for how long the Colorado River has been carving away at the landscape of the Grand Canyon. South Kaibab to Bright Angel.

There are a total of 160 volcanoes, 29 of which are still active in the Kamchatka Peninsula of far east Russia. On this night, incredible lenticular clouds formed amidst a glowing red sunset reminding us of a volcanic plume. If you visit this vast wild landscape you will feel a rawness that we rarely experience while traveling.

I can always tell when an architect loves nature. The Ticino region in the south of Switzerland is a prime example of how man and nature can live in harmony.

Canyoneering complete with some backflips into the water led us to this waterfall rappel in Lodrino Canyon, Switzerland.

Almost every place on Earth has a name, like these vibrant lakes in Switzerland. From left to right: Lago dello Stabbio, Lago Cadagno, and Lago Ritòm. The hike up was so worth it for a view from amongst the clouds.

The name of this waterfall is very literal; Havasupai, the people of the blue-green waters. The natives who live in the area share its name and consider the ancient calcium and magnesium rich water sacred. Grand Canyon, Arizona.

India is a wild place, but I never really expected to find the waves that we did. This remote river mouth had Pallas sea eagles all over the beach grabbing pieces of fish.

The trees weren’t the only things feeling the sting of the wind.

Fall colors in Lauterbrunnen, a Swiss valley that is barely wider than a kilometer in some places. Several waterfalls cascade down the cliffs, almost being lost in spray before the water can reach the bottom. The river that runs through the valley is fed by snowmelt in the higher peaks and is therefore very cold and pure. I could sit here and watch the clouds move and light change for hours.

The Pacific Northwest is a place you can spend months exploring and still not see everything there is to see. The plane is fueled, bags are packed, batteries are charged and now the adventure begins. Alder Trees, Salmonberries, Bald Eagles, and fishing for Rainbow Trout mix together for a PNW recipe. @goalzero

The west coast of the US is filled with hidden and not so hidden gems. A lot of people think to get a great shot they need to venture out to some epic location. Yes that is fun and you do get great photographs,  stories and experiences; but really some of the most beautiful places you can shoot are sometimes in your backyard. @olloclip
