- Mello would cut his hair. Not entirely short, he still has some length on top to cover what he can of the scar. He was grabbed by the hair in a fight once and decided it had to go.

- There are many more scars on him now, it’s harder to find somewhere on his body that doesn’t have a faded scar. A knick from a knife, skin getting sliced open by a big ring and more memorable moments like the time Matt pushed him into a rose bush and he gashed his face on the thorns

- His clothing choices have calmed down. Breathable, easy to move in fabric has replaced the leather. Dark colours are still a central part of his wardrobe along with his boots. He still loves an accessory but they’re smaller. Less likely to be grabbed suddenly. Larger pieces of important jewellery he’s had incorporated into the four tattoos on his body. Easily hidden and concealed by long sleeve shirts.

- Mello is innocuous. He doesn’t stand out in the slightest and that is by design. Seeing him in a line up would cause mild hesitation but you wouldn’t be sure why and you could easily pass over him. But he could lock eyes with you and every single nerve in your body would scream at you to leave. The confidence he had as a teenager no longer needs to be displayed as if he’s trying to convince not just everyone but also himself. He’s pulled his confidence inwards. He’s learned to be at least a little vulnerable for the people he cares about, which is mostly just Matt. He sends Near a birthday card every year.

- Matt is scruffier, maybe a little pudgier. He always has stubble on his chin and permanent lines around his eyes from where his goggles sat for fifteen years. He still smokes occasionally. Fingers and teeth lightly stained from the tobacco. Still has a cocky smile. Still has a massive undeserved ego.

- Fashion choices have merged into ‘I’m 30 and still play video games’ chic. Mostly sweats and funny T-shirt’s but he’s not adverse to nice jeans and a button up. When he did bother to dress up and get himself looking nice Mello would call him handsome.
