the horace hate througout the entirety of the series is SO FORCED. genuinely who in their right mind would make fun of or look down on a child for being afraid during one of the the most if not the most horrific time of their lives? not only this, but other children are the ones that are usually making fun of him or looking down on him! for being scared? he should be! why isn't anyone else? the truth is, they all are. though for some reason, horace is the only one allowed to show it (and sometimes claire, though her fear is constantly justified since she is so young; makes me wonder why the same justification isn't given to horace who is also very young). it absolutely boggles me that riggs wrote every character to seem capable and brave in the face of danger, but horace, who is the only one that has realistic emotions to these situations, is shunned for his realistic emotions! everyone is constantly making jabs at him for being "cowardly", or "weak", or anything like that, when really, he should be the one calling everyone out for their lack of emotions. it is not realistic at all for children who are only a few years older than him, or even his age and/or younger than him, or even a dog, to think that he is strange for not seemingly wanting to "die for the cause" or whatever complex riggs seems to have gave all of these children. it's like riggs wanted to make horace seem "annoying" because "oh he's such a baby and he's so scared all the time" and we need a character to go against so that our main protagonists look better and more triumphant. but in reality, he just made everyone talk bad about a kid who, besides being honestly the bravest one of all given what he has to endure almost every night forever, is real in his worries about potentially getting hurt or dying or having other people suffer the same fates. it is not realistic at all for any of them to act like this constantly towards horace.
while i do think movie!horace has a cool ability compared to book!horace in the sense that he can project what he dreams, i am so grateful that book!horace does not have that ability. imagine you are movie!horace. and every. single. night. you are set up in front of your (found) family that you will be stuck with presumably for all eternity (also implying that you will be doing this for all eternity), and you have to project whatever dream or dreams you had the night before for all of them to see.
this kid. who is 13, more so 14 in the movie. has to show off his dreams. every night. forever. in front of his family.
i think if i was movie!horace.....id take my chances outside the loop. holy shit. either that or i would just pass out from embarrassment every time. that sounds like a punishment. not to mention, if we are taking into consideration that movie!horace is similar to that of book!horace in the sense that more than half the time he can't remember what he dreams about, he would be just as suprised as everyone else and that just makes it 10x worse.
i know they say in the movie that he usually dreams about clothes, which i assume horace wouldn't be embarrassed about. but. he won't...always? he's 13-14. he's bound to dream up some crazy shit that him and everyone else will be forced to watch for some reason. this is honestly a huge invasion of privacy, given he has to do it every night. i guess i can understand to a degree; they (miss peregrine) might not know what useful information he could have prophetically dreamed about regarding various things. but i fear there are better ways to go about this.
Anyway, TJ was actually born with intellectual disability. He did not gain it through using his power on people with intellectual disability because ID is not something that can be cured because it is not something that is wrong. It's a disability, not a disease.
TJ has Williams Syndrome and mild-moderate intellectual disability, and the Foundation severely restricted his access to freedom, education, and most deep human connection to try and keep him easy to control (because the idea of them giving him ID to keep him compliant and easy to control would be 100% guaranteed to work is ridiculous. My sibling in Satan I fear you know nothing about ID,) and what freedom, education, and human connection he was given was all very heavily planned and tightly strategically controlled to shape how he perceived everything and how he would react. And that worked for a good long while
Until he was adopted by 049, who saw how horrifically he was being neglected mentally, emotionally, and educationally, and stepped in. And TJ absolutely blossomed

anyone ever think about how everyone that was looped (so everyone besides jacob/later noor) did age at least some while being outside of various loops, more notably while they were in america? i bring this up because there is no doubt that now characters like enoch, horace, millard, even bronwyn and emma to a degree are feeling the effects of puberty more prominently now, and until they decide to leave the loop and actually grow however far out post canon that may be, they will continue to feel these emotions since they have been relooped now further down in their age. after years of being looped without this transformation to basically every part of you, they are definitely not used to it, especially the younger bunch that have never experienced it to start with.
that must suck really bad. i can imagine enoch being really emotional in more of a sad way rather than his typical nonchalant "angry" way while simultaneously getting angry that he is feeling sad more than usual, horace suddenly losing interest in his passions and getting extremely frustrated all the time and lashing out to others on accident, millard not even knowing his body is growing and changing because he can't see himself but he can feel it and it is scary to him not knowing what exactly is going on, and everything else on top of these.
My sis made me watch the 5th season of Fantasy Patrol, and i actually liked it, especially Otley’s design (that guy has so much rizz tbh and looks like the son of Vox from Hazbin Hotel and Caine from TADC lmao)

i wish enoch was treated more like he was 10-13 throughout the entirety of the series.
you can have a child character be mean. that's the fun in it. not to mention you have a reasoning for why he can be mean, and you've established that his character is generally rude or sarcastic with a hidden caring side. that makes for an interesting character, especially compared to the two child characters slightly younger than him being bubbly and fun. what does not make a character interesting is when he is played more into this stereotypical "mean/harsh teenager" role when he never was supposed to actually be a teenager.
it's clear that riggs wanted enoch to be older and treated him as such especially in the second trilogy, but it's too late to do that consitering that he has been described to be pubescent and most definitely a child, not even a teen yet.
the time period he was raised in for sure plays a part in how he may act older than he is yes, but he goes from acting as an appropriate 10-11-12 year old that likes to act big and tough to appear older, to someone that just seems like they are 14-15, especially when you add in the element of him suddenly developing crushes on women much older than him, which has never been an element of his character up until so.
it makes me sad; i feel like the whole charm of his character is that he is this little odd fellow who has a "creepy" peculiarity and acts like a little nuisance most of the time, but really he does truly care and is misunderstood in this world of peculiars who have gotten to age much higher than him and therefore better understand themselves and their emotions. funny enough, we start out in that direction. but, just as the series as a whole, it crumbles along the way to the finish line.

mphfpc x f1 au, starting with of course the boy that inspired it all and my favorite boy; together they are the boys of all time and i gave them fast cars to go vroom vroom and tink tack in.
i also made them the best.
below the cut is just a shit load of random information about them, other people im including and their roles in this au, some general f1 stuff, just so much stuff. read if curious. if not, you'll eventually see because this is my current obsession and it has hit me like a truck.
before i made this i knew basically nothing about f1 lmao. i knew the cars were fast and that's about it. but i got inspired by someone on instagram, "gurrango", because i kept getting their art in my feed and they do majority f1 drawings. i was like "uh ok lol i dont even know anything about f1 but this is cool" and then i was like "i bet enoch would like f1" and here i am typing this out now.
i guess the main thing to say is that this is an au where everyone is aged up. the youngest you can be to race in f1 is 17, and in enoch's case, i didn't want him to be the NEWEST character; the honor will go to jacob (unfortunately). so as for aging, here is what im thinking:
jacob is 25, emma is 24, noor is 24, ricky is 26, bronwyn and victor are 23, hugh is 28, fiona is 27, millard is 24, enoch is 20, horace is 21, olive is 18, claire is 16, miss p/miss cuckoo are in their early to mid 40's, and then a plethora of side characters that will all be appropriately aged up.
totally switching gears here, i found out in my line of f1 research that jewelry was banned while driving (for "safety reasons"). this obviously made a lot of the drivers upset, and many rallied against it, notably a driver named lewis hamilton, who is the first and only black f1 racer (black-british, and f1 was established in 1950), and he activity (at least in 2023, im not sure about now) went against this rule and wore a ton of chains and earrings. there's a "fun" f1 fact for you. i say all this because i gave enoch a noticeable amount of jewelry. i plan on others having jewelry as well, so i suppose in this au that rule was never created. though if it was you better believe he'd fight against it.
on that same path i guess, i just kind of threw everything on enoch because i can do what i want. he was originally only supposed to have his two hair strands dyed, a couple of earrings, and maybe a nose piercing, but somehow he ended up with all of that, a eyebrow piercing, star pimple patches, a necklace, and nail polish. enoch in the original series has always been breaking the norm before people even knew what that meant lol.
which brings me to another fact. this only somewhat applies to enoch, and i have no idea about horace (getting information on race engineers is much more difficult than finding some on drivers), but there has only been two gay men to ever be f1 drivers in history, one in the 1970's and one more recently who came out on 2024 (though he is retired). while i don't see enoch as a gay man, more so bi or pan, i think it's sort of unbelievable that this sport LITERALLY centers around straight white europeans. no black people, no gay people, and no women, because another fun-ish not so fun fact, women have their own f1 league that was made in 2023; the men have had "theirs" since 1950.
two things regarding all of this information i just shared: one. is this an enorace ship? if you want it to be then sure. as ive said before, im pretty neutral when it comes to shipping, so really i have no problem with seeing this as a ship (especially now that they are older). me personally can still only see them as either best friends or best-friends-that-hold-hands-sometimes, but view this as you want. two. this is now a co-ed f1 leauge. there is no way id put my girls in their own seperate leauge, that is ridiculous. no, they hold their own and they are great.
speaking of which, i have some roles that i will be giving to every other character. some are not 100% decided yet, but this is what i have so far:
jacob and ricky as racers, with noor as jacob's race engineer and dallas as ricky's. they will most likely drive for the cadillac team (the one of two american-based teams). jacob will be going into his rookie year, being the grandson of f1 hall of famer abraham portman.
emma will be a racer, with julia as her race engineer. i know it probably isnt realistic to have so many siblings be with eachother whether that be racer and engineer or racer and racer (cough which we'll get to), but it is in this universe. im thinking she'll race for either ferrari or mclaren. the team's principal, miss peregrine, is a legendary racer, now hall of famer, who had a rivalry with abe in their days of racing. therefore, the hatred towards jacob from emma wouldn't be because of an ex, but because of her mentor/coach/biggest inspiration being scuffed so many times due to his grandpa.
bronwyn and victor will both be racers, with olive being a part of their pit crew. i didn't want olive to be their race engineer, i just don't see that happening. this next part im a little tied about; i was thinking of making millard either victor's race engineer or hugh's (who we will get to shortly). im also unsure on who i want to be bronwyn's race engineer. i was thinking melina, but i want her to be her own racer (i have quite a few side characters in mind to use to make a full 11 team-22 racer roster). i can't quite remember who bronwyn connected with side character wise throughout the series, even if it was brief. if anyone knows of anyone, lmk. im thinking they'll race for williams.
hugh is the racer alongside enoch working for redbull. like i said above, im not sure if millard will be working for him or not. as for fiona, i am also stumped on her. i dont think she would be a racer, or someone in the crew. if anything, she'd work behind the scenes, but i don't see her doing that either to be honest. right now, i have her owning a large sponsorship that will be apart of hugh's uniform. i also decided i will be giving them their daughter that sammi came up with, feirdhris, who will be 3 years old.
claire will be horace's younger sister, and work as the team's (but primary enoch's) social media producer/"manager". i want to give her this alt look inspired by designs from yellowsuitandcar and noorpradeshfan, but she keeps elements of her pink and girly side; though, she is definitely getting an undercut lol.
miss peregrine will be whatever team emma is working under's principal. an f1 team's principal is basically the leader of the team, the chief executive; they at the end of the day make all of the decisions. miss cuckoo is the principal of the redbull team (as seen on the magazine). i wanted to do this so that 1. rivals turned lovers old yuri edition and 2. emma and enoch could have that sibling type of rivalry without beinf explicitly siblings. i also like to think isabel would be a racer during alma's time alongside abe, though they never had an intense rivalry like abe and alma did. i even like to think isabel would have liked/had a crush on alma for YEARS, and would make it very obvious, though alma would never act on it until when this au takes place.
and then as i said, there will be side characters picked to create the remaining teams. savaldor will definitely be a racer, melina will be a racer, sebbie/julius will be a team with sebbie being a racer/julius being race engineer, horito will be one of the team's principal, etc etc. they are not all 100% confirmed yet, but i have a while until i start thinking about them.
i suppose i haven't mentioned, this is a peculiarity-less au. they don't have powers while they are racing in cars that go 200mph lol, as cool as that would be.
ok im almost done with my rambling. i want to talk a little about enoch and horace in this au and then im done.
i made them race for the redbull racing team not just because i myself am addicted to rebulls and have drawn them now twice consuming redbulls lol, but because it made the most sense based on the team's history and they had the best color scheme i thought was appropriate for enoch. i liked the william's team and the mclaren team for him originally, but their colors are white and teal and orange.....not fit for enoch lol. did i mostly make this choice based off of team colors MAYBE. but also, i didn't want some high, luxury team to be enoch's team, so nothing lile ferrari or mercedes. also, i made enoch's race number #92 because his mphfpc canon birth year is 1892, even if his actual day of birth is apparently 3 seperate days lol.
i like to think they would have met in highschool, probably freshman year. enoch still comes from a family that owns a funeral parlor, and horace still comes from a well off family (im thinking of making his dad a psychologist, to keep in theme of his peculiarity). total opposites that happened to find out they both share an interest in f1, and then ended up working together. it's kind of that simple lol; i guess i didn't have as much to say as i thought. i will be the bearer of bad news though, and say that enoch can never escape a horrific injury in any universe; sometime along the way of the current time of this au, he'd get in a bad accident on the track that would take him out of the game for some months. he would recover just fine, and would be anxious to race again, but it would take a while to actually get back at it, for his desires to race would be battling with his fear of it. he also would have a nasty scar on his face...somehow. the helmet slipped off or something in the wreck, broke some how, idk lol. that is just to keep it canon to the mphpfc universe (even though him getting a nasty face scar isnt canon at all; it is just such a popular headcanon that it might as well be lol). i think both of their career choices would be looked down upon by their parents, especially horace's, who had big aspirations for him. i think they would cut him off for some years, only later trying to rekindle it after hearing of his success, in which he would ignore them.

Horace is super short for his age which unfortunately makes him shorter than Enoch, and he’s a tad insecure about it, so he goes out of his way to wear a top hat in all situations to assert height dominance
He’s so desperate to give Fiona a full makeover but knows how much she hates it, so he restrains himself and has since resigned to giving a pained glance at her ratty hair and raggedy dress when he thinks she can’t see
But she can see and one time she took pity on him and allowed her to make her a new dress. He was ecstatic and spent several months working on the loveliest gown any of them had ever seen, reminiscent of the traditional Irish dresses. She even washed the seeds out of her hair to try it on so he wouldn’t have a heart attack. She wears it on most of her dates with Hugh (if the dates are dirt-free, of course)
Loves to knit and sew his friend’s clothes, and has made most of the clothes in the house along with Miss P. As a result, they never need to go clothes shopping, they only need to supply Horace with fabric and sewing materials (which might actually cost more and take longer but he loves it and his clothes are so comfy that no one dares complain)
He grew up quite poor and always dreamed of getting to own fancy clothes and shoes. He always wanted to become a fashion designer
Was introduced to fashion and dressmaking by Miss P. They’ve known each other for a long time (like half his life) and are kinds like mother and son. They spend a lot of time with each other complaining about the state of the world (well, the state of the world’s fashion lol). They also knit together often
Major sleepwalker. He wanders all around the house and outside into the garden and wakes up in a pile of dirt, much to his dismay. Of course, only if he can actually get to sleep.
He really likes to cook and tends to cook for the house most days. This job was shared between the other children until he got older and became more and more of a control freak in the kitchen to the point that he scared everyone else out so that he can do his own thing at his own pace. Sometimes, the kids like to watch him from the doorway in awe as he shimmies expertly around the kitchen
His favourite colour is purple and he actually owns this ridiculous pair of bright purple shoes that he bought on a whim. He’s too embarrassed to admit he owns something so ugly and so they remain at the bottom of his cupboard to this day. He occasionally pulls them out to marvel at his poor choices
I read all the original Dolittle books, just to see where the character of Aibolit (a separate character that was made when a guy tried to translate the Dolittle book, but got carried away) came from and how much the both character's stories actually vary from eachother and i'm deeply disappointed that he's some fatass bourjuasie.
