The redhead had been breaking his head on the particular subject for weeks now, the specific date drawing closer & closer not exactly helping either. It was almost Syo’s birthday — and with the other being his best friend and especially after the gift he received for his own birthday, he wanted to do something special.
But trying to deduce what said ‘special’ thing was, was harder than expected. If anything, he didn’t want to do anything typical. Syo would surely be satisfied with anything the redhead got him, and seeing that smile on the other’s features would be enough — but this year, that wasn’t going to cut it. The blond would surely receive more than enough hats and other fashionable items, so the guitarist definitely wanted to refrain from getting any of those.
Something personalized like the bracelet he got was definitely appealing, but unfortunately, the redhead was by far not as creative as the blond when it came to subjects like these. He could probably opt to make a cake, but the assistance he’d probably require would make the present far less personal as well.
Was there something he could do then..?
There was, and the redhead had been planning it for quite some time now. Keeping his mouth shut was probably the hardest part, but he was fairly certain that his best friend had no idea whatsoever. Syo had been working so very hard lately, perhaps even that was an understatement, and while it could probably be said for all the band members, the guitarist felt like the other had earned a well deserved break — which was exactly what he was going to give him.
The other probably didn’t know yet, but from Sunday till Wednesday his schedule was cleared, still allowing him to spend time with everyone on his actual birthday before leaving. It had been quite a hassle to do, but the idol had managed to do it nonetheless. Ofcourse that wasn’t all he did, he also made enough plans so the blond wouldn’t get bored whatsoever. The violinist was getting a trip to Kamakura, which was merely 2 hours away by train, allowing him some different sights than the far too familiar ones in Tokyo. The hotel he booked for the other was merely minutes away from the city’s famous shopping street, meaning that his best friend could do lots and lots of shopping as he loved to do.
—ofcourse, the idol didn’t have to go alone. Even if it would allow for quite a break, surely Syo would eventually get bored if there was no one around to talk to. Who to bring was completely up to him however, the redhead could only hope that whoever he decided to bring would be able to clear their schedule on such a short notice. But never the less, the guitarist was satisfied with what he came up with.
Unable to contain his excitement, sleep had apparently been the last thing on his mind today, causing him to wake up & arrive at the other’s dorm door perhaps a bit early. A large enveloppe that contained all the tickets the other needed in hand, the idol was also carrying a slim rectangle present as well. Inside the red wrapping paper of said present, the blond would find a notebook. “Syo’s notes” cheesily written on the pink cover, surrounded by a few winged Onpu-kun’s that were spread over it. The first page also contained doodles of a chibi Syo in his “Prince of Fighting” outfit, supposedly fighting various versions of the pink mascot. Perhaps it was cheesy, but the idol wanted to add some light heartedness in it as well. On the back however, there were 2 chibis of the two best friends, holding hands with grins stretched from cheek to cheek, a soccer ball resting at their feet. The words “Forever the perfect golden combo ♥” written on top. Hopefully it will bring a smile to his face the day he discovers it.
Taking a deep breath, his lips soon stretched into a bright smile, carefully knocking the door to hopefully not disturb the other roommates just yet. “…Syo? Are you up yet..?” The idol could feel his heartbeat increasing as he gave it a few seconds, perhaps it was for the best to come back later.
Since the beginning of the month, more and more excitement had been building up inside Syo with each passing day. It didn’t matter how busy he’d been. At least once a day, he’d count down how many days were left until the day—his birthday. He couldn’t put a finger on why he was so much more excited about it this year than he’d been last year, but he was, and his busy schedule meant he was grateful for every bit of extra energy that excitement offered him.
Except...maybe that excitement could stand to mellow out a little, because his birthday had arrived, and he was pretty sure he hadn’t gotten much sleep last night. He knew he had a tendency to sprawl out and squirm around in bed if he had the space all to himself, and he usually slept through it, yet he vividly remembered doing a lot of tossing and turning the night before. Sighing heavily to himself, he sat on the side of his bed and ran his fingers through his hair. It was still early, but there was no way he was going back to sleep now. Morning had come, and with it, he was another year older. A broad grin spread across his face at the thought, and he eased himself off his bed and onto the floor, trying not to disturb the room’s other occupants.
He got ready for the day as quietly as he could, keeping his footsteps light and his movements cautious. After he was mostly dressed, he’d only just finished picking out the perfect hat to match the rest of his outfit. His hand was halfway to putting the hat on his head when he heard a knock at the door, followed by the sound of a voice he knew all too well. His heart skipped a beat, and he practically shoved his hat onto his head before making a fast dash over to the door. He had the door open in no time, and his eyes locked with those of his best friend.
“Otoya!” The exclamation left his mouth before he could stop it or muffle it, and perhaps he’d said it just a little too loudly. His bright, wide grin became sheepish, and he put one hand over his mouth as an afterthought, the other reaching behind him to shut the door as he stepped out into the hallway. Slowly, he lowered his hand and tried to shrug off the situation he’d created. “Ah... Sorry. I’d let you in, but Natsuki is still asleep and I don’t want to wake him up.” He chuckled, albeit a bit nervously, and glanced back at the door to his room for a moment. He couldn’t hear anything after waiting a few seconds, so he assumed all was well and let out a sigh of relief. Time to focus back on Otoya—something he would gladly do.
“Anyway... Don’t worry; you didn’t wake me up. I couldn’t get much sleep last night no matter how hard I tried. I’ve been looking forward to today, if you couldn’t tell.” He laughed again, and this time the sound was much more relaxed and genuine. Moving away from the door a bit, he leaned against the wall beside it, and his eyes gradually wandered from the redhead’s face to the envelope and wrapped rectangular shape in Otoya’s hands. He didn’t want to assume too much, but considering what day it was and that Otoya had come to find him specifically...
