You only live twice

Gaia Rising, a sim with Italian flavors… but not too much. Still worth a visit.

(...) It was the early ’70s, and I was a child immersed in dilemmas larger than myself. The author and performer of the song was a young Irishman from Watford, Gilbert O’ Sullivan. His given name was Raymond, but his producer – Gordon Mills – bestowed upon him this stage name inspired by two nineteenth-century operetta authors.

Metropolitan settings have their charm, especially when they represent a city with European connotations like Ethereal City. It is a very well made and well-kept place, varied, with really nice corners. A city in which it would certainly be pleasant to live, both in real life and in virtual second life.

The name intrigued me, not so much because of the cocktail of the same name – I am a teetotaller – but because it brings back memories of the times of my youth, with the echo of the Eagles song, taken from the album Desperado, which resonates in my mind .

At the time my knowledge of English was decidedly poor, so for me it was just music, I understood nothing of the lyrics. But when I had the chance to understand the meaning of it, I liked it even more. I identified with the protagonist’s loneliness, even if for reasons different from mine, and with his need to “take another shot of courage”, which I have never had.
