Celebrating Steven Spielberg's "Oners".
I've read a few articles, talking about this is the work of masterful editing but I think this isn't true.
Speilberg, during his early years, didn't have hundred million dollar budgets in order to produce over-the-top films. Â Staying focused on producing wonderful master shots is a fast, easier way to produce great footage that is "in the can".
Lugosi on the set of Dracula (1931).
Love this picture!
Writing the next project
So I've read Story by Stephen a few times and it's really good. However breaking down current scripts and describing their good points does little to help me write something good. Enter the 90 Day Screenplay by Alan Watt. Here, his approach is something that I really like: characters drive story. So I have an idea and a basic idea on the characters. That's about it. But I like the questions and exercises he gives isn the workbook because it's helping me really flush out the 3-act story structure.
If you haven't seen this, you probably should. There really is something magical about bring these stories to life on the silver screen.
Yeah it's been many moons since I posted. This guy dies a great series around story structure. Since we are always hunting for ideas, we found the videos to be quite good.

I would really like to do some work with film noir on my next project. I think the harsh lighting is a tool that can be used to show off some nice cracked psyche.
Dodging Bullets
Nearly a week ago, my Mac went down.
It's hard to imagine a time when my life didn't exist on an aluminum-covered hard drive and my livelihood dependent on keystrokes. Â But I spent the first 25 years of my life sans computer and now it's an integral part of everything that I do.
Fortunately the Apple store comes to the rescue.
Sure enough, my hard drive was failing. Â Bad news. Â Good news is that I actually use Time Machine quite often. Â Bad news is I have to get the whole thing replaced. Â Good news is it only cost me $120.
If your Mac is less than 5 years old, no matter what happens to it, Apple will do $1,200 worth of repairs for only $310. Â Can you believe that? Â That is super cool.
I'd like to get a new Mac this coming year. Â I'm saving my pennies. Â Invariably a newer model comes out that's faster and cheaper. Â Hopefully by the time I save up my money, the newer models will have come out.
My Mac is back and everyone is happy!
