i didn't play with barbies when i was younger. but everytime i saw the doll, the movies, the slogans. “you can be anything”. during the few years of innocence in my life i grabbed that phrase and wrapped it around like a blanket: i was a young girl living in a world full of possibilities, where i could choose my future. as the years passed, the harsh reality was rubbed in my face that i am just a woman. i can be whatever i want, but only if that's up to men's standards. now that barbie is coming back i feel like a kid again, but not as innocent. several women wearing pink, being happy and sharing experiences. my tears are also her tears, which are the tears of all of us. at that moment no one told us to stop being hysterical or to stop being idiots. it's all of us, watching our best friend barbie on the screen, going through the situations we all went through and feeling our anguish. it's so beautiful to be a woman in that moment, and to see several others of me together for a moment, brushing their hair and cleaning their wounds. i no longer feel ashamed of being pretty and pink and wearing bows, i feel proud of my femininity and being a woman in this cruel world. we are not alone, because we are one. we are all barbies.
