i find it so telling of paya’s character, by the time you reach the end of the game & her final diary entry, that she comes to terms almost immediately that her love for link may be unrequited. while infatuation at best, as she never has properly been able to learn of him besides stories & her own impressions, she still is so selfless in accepting this, even if it may or may not be true. but it is also telling that perhaps she may suffer from low self esteem, that her own self image is not on par with what she believes link deserves. zelda, as she mentioned, seemed like a better suit, for not only has she served as a companion of link ever since the great calamity, but she is also royalty, & presumably a better partner.
all in all, her entries are a rather bittersweet inside look of paya.
