Why the fuck are we so important??

Oh wait.

🫩 Yeah, dude. I wasn’t born yesterday. But lol you know that there are people that are deeply uncomfortable with the concept of owning another living being, right??

I play by the rules and concede to animal ownership (🤢) because I have to. But the cats I care for are living creatures that can think and feel. They have the brain capacity of a two-year-old human child and depend on me to feed them, provide them a safe and comfortable environment, take care of their health and to give them love and attention. They are basically my children.

I used to think like this because it seemed like the most accepting thing but honestly it’s enabling. It’s like saying that if you don’t see any sign of bruises on a victim, they couldn’t possibly be being abused.

Hurt is more than physical. Religions like Christianity, Catholicism, Mormonism, Islam, etc. teach shame and guilt, stigmatization, and are tools for the oppression and other’ing of people for things they cannot control. There isn’t one religion that doesn’t demonize same-sex attraction and relationships.

Most of them are deeply tied to colonization as they were forced upon peoples that had no choice but to submit or die. And there isn’t one major religion that isn’t bent on making women and children less significant than men at best, encouraging violence against them at worst.

I know there are people that mean no harm when they worship these religions, but they also have no choice but to cherry-pick and heavily edit their religion to make it acceptable. And at one point is it also acceptable to say “hey I know how to be a good person, I know I can teach this to my children, I don’t need a guide and an unproven god to help me do that?”
