I honestly find it so stupid that ppl in the mlb fandom hate on marinette for the s5 finale. Like it reeks of misogyny and the adultification of poc- another example of this in the fandom is constant alya hate- but onto my actual point, this is the rundown of the s5 finale: Marinette finds out her boyfriend's dad is the villain, her and said dad fight, dad almost wins and quite literally is going to wish a 14 year old a slow and painful death, has a sudden change of heart after marinette ig reasons with him, sacrifices himself to wish his assistant to heal, asks marinette to make sure his son- her bf- to remember him as a good dad. Mind you this all happened in the timeframe of 2-3 hours at most. Marinette is now having insane survivor’s guilt- and i would like to remind everyone; Miraculous Ladybug is a show whose main plot is quite legit emotional abuse and its ramifications on victims, and that Gabriel is at his core of is an emotional abuser and at worst a groomer (not sexually, there's a lot of different types y'all)- either way, Marinette is now alone to ramble with the effects of this decision, but one thing remains clear, she wants to help adrien out. This leads us to the saying "Ignorance is bliss," because by the end of s5, Ladybug has lied to at least everyone in the city, because the alternative is: She tells the truth, adrien loses both of his parental figures: Natalie and Gabriel, and his life would go to shit conceptually and emotionally. Not good for a dude that has never really had free will before and just was locked in an isolation cell. And in Marinette's Atlas-like mind thats worse than just lying to the entire city- which some part of me agrees with- so, what have we learnt? Gabriel asks this teenager to do a PR cleanup for him before he commits suicide in front of her, teen agrees cuz she's racked with guilt. And yet the fandom blames her for lying? A 14 year old is now being called an abuser because she had the misfortune of being a convoluted girl, because some ppl in the fandom cant fathom that people have different ethics and are also not 22 year olds. I've even seen one user say 'they're fully mature now cuz the miraculous-' and if we're going to let jewelry define maturity then by that logic when a girl gets her period, then she should be married off and have babies. In short, hating a character for being forced into a situation she isn't ready for simply because it 'harms' - what i mean by the quotation marks is that, he isnt going to get any actual tangible harm done to him like he wouldve if she told the truth- the other 'better suited demure, constantly dumbified protagonist who is also coincidentally white, blonde, and a male' is odd.
