Liebe auch deine Illustration und hab mich letztens mal gefragt wie der Prozess eigentlich abläuft. Liest du all die Bücher die du illustrierst vorher oder gibt dir der Verlag/Autor vor die und die Szene sollen Bilder haben und du liest nur dir beschriebene Stelle? Ich nehme an das gesamte Buch lesen ist die ideale Variante aber da du das bestimmt nicht umsonst machst auch teurer?

Hey, hey! Also das ist tatsächlich unterschiedlich. Bei diesen limitierten/fancy illustrierten Editionen lese ist immer das ganze Buch und kann mir meist bis zu einem gewissen Grad auch aussuchen, was ich illustrieren möchte. Bei Buchboxen wird meist recht genau vorgegeben, was illustriert werden soll, da lese ich das Buch nicht und bekomme ein entsprechend detailliertes Briefing. Bei Covern ist das Buch manchmal noch gar nicht geschrieben :D Bisher habe ich Manuskripte eigentlich immer gelesen, wenn ich sie bekomme, weil des imo einfach zu besseren Covern führt (und ich sehr schnell und gerne lese), aber das wird nicht von Verlagen verlangt. Die zahlen dafür nämlich nicht extra und wissen, dass das dauert. Dafür haben die aber auch die Art Direktion and das Lektorat um mir alle Infos zu geben, die ich brauche.

Dieses Jahr habe ich aber tatsächlich angefangen, nicht mehr alle Manuskripte zuende zu lesen und einfach nach Infos zu fragen.

I love your art, it resonates so much with me and i wanted to ask how you felt about people getting tattoos of it/inspired by it? i was considering it but i know some artists sell tattoo tickets or request to have a print bought in exchange for the right to get the art tattooed (or simply would prefer people not to do it at all) and i wanted to ask your own stance before i started anything. have a very lovely day!

I really don't mind people getting my art tattooed (even if it feels WILD!), if they want to buy a print (or a mermaid book :D) that's of course appreciated (but only if you actually want one!). If having my art on your body makes you happy, you should go for it! Find a good tattoo artist you trust, stay hydrated, don't scratch the fresh tattoo and send me a photo when it's healed! (I'd love design credit, though, if the tattoo artist wants to use the artwork to promote themself. Like 'based on/inspired by an artwork by ...')

Wollte nur kurz sagen, dass ich deine Illustrationen und Buchcover für Don't Let The Forest In und Hazelthorn liebe. Hätte DLTFI als Buchhändlerin wahrscheinlich nicht für unsere englische Abteilung hergeholt und mich später dann auch nicht selbst ans Lesen rangewagt, wenn mich das Cover nicht sofort so angesprochen hätte. Ich finde du fängst den Vibe perfekt ein und zeichnest die Charaktere und Monster genauso wie ich sie mir vorgestellt habe.

Ich hoffe du bekommst noch die Chance viele weitere Horror-Buchcover zu illustrieren

Just wanted to pop in and say, your cover for Don't Let The Forest In is BEAUTIFUL. I haven't spent that long looking at all the beauty and detail on a book cover for a long time, and even better, it matches the book perfectly. You are an amazing illustrator!
