Just doing whatever

I wasn't expecting much from the beginning. I kept my expectations low because I knew I would've ended disappointed either way considering what happened with Neil Gaiman, and still, I was left with an incredible sour taste in my mouth, coupled with a grieving for the characters, and for what their final send off could've been.

Making this a movie was, in my opinion, an extremely far fetched choice : the script didn't have, much needed, time to breathe. It was packed to the brim with dialogues and fast paced back to back scenes, yet in certain instances it felt like barely anything was happening.

The scenes between Aziraphale and Crowley felt underwhelming and forced. They barely talk about what happened between them, and it feels like what Aziraphale did get completely glossed over in favor of letting the duo stick togheter once again. Crowley is a complete push over, and considering the state he was found in, Aziraphale's actions felt pretty mean spirited and self centered in certain scenes.

Characters from the previous season -Maggie and Nina- were forgotten, and shrugged off with the cheap narrative artifact of "they closed/sold their establishments", an incredly underwhelming send off (if you can even call it that) for them. Other characters were created for the sole purpose of fabricating scenarios in which Crowley and Aziraphale could interact. Jesus was a complete tool with barely no agency, personality or motivations. When his narrative purpose was fullfilled, he was simply killed off.

What was the point, other than forcing the two parts of a ship to talk to each other ? In my opinion, they should've chosen between one or the other : Michael stealing the book of life, or Jesus and the new Armageddon. There are too many open plots for a 1 hour and 30 minute movie, and because of that they had to speed run a closure for each of them.

The finale...oh my god. Like I said, I was expecting something bad, but not THAT bad.

I'm sick and tired of writers writing themselves into a corner and choosing the faster and cheaper option of simply resetting everything, and I'm sick of them pretending like a narrative reset of that caliber should be seen as something to celebrate.

The characters we knew for two entire seasons died without ever actually talking about what happened between them. The two people that got to know and love each other through human history, that were shaped by their surrounding, don't exist anymore. They are dead, and never had a chance for happiness. They longed for one another for thousands upon thousands of years, and now, as humans, will live togheter for what, 40 years and then die ? Never seeing each other again because there's, I presume, no afterlife, and without ever remembering their previous selves. Why would I care for these two guys growing old together when it's not really them ? Why would I, or should I celebrate something like this ?

I was expecting them to turn human, but at least with their memories intact. This is just sad and disappointing...
