Rasha watched the boy with soft eyes as he made it down to the ground.  At his landing, she gave him a soft smile and nodded.  “Let’s go to the bench.”  She suggested.  Walking quickly, she slid her backpack off and sat perched on the flat of her feet on the bottom of the bench while she tugged her sleeves over her hands.  Her face was pale, the dark circles almost bruise-like under her eyes.  Her eyes fluttered as if she was physically forcing them to stay open with every blink.

Giving the boy a gentle smile, Rasha shook her head.  “We can sit on the bench.”  She suggested.  She deftly slid partway down the structure before swinging and dropping safely to the ground.  “Do you need help, Winston?”  She asked pulling herself up halfway.  At the moment she would do whatever she could to avoid the boy’s questions and concerned eyes.

Jumping at the sound of her name, the girl glanced at Winston and gave him a shaky smile.  “Uh…hi.”  She said softly, widening her base on the structure so she wouldn’t fall off.  Rasha shrugged and adjusted her backpack.  “I guess.”  She mumbled.  Looking at Winston who looked so uncomfortable on top of the steel structure, her face softened.  “We can climb down.”  She offered.  “I would not want you to get hurt.”  Her hands shook violently and she hid them in her sleeves before looking up at Winston again.

Rasha sat on the top of the play structure, starting out at nothing at all.  Her head was throbbing, a pain that even the ample amount of caffeine she had been drinking wouldn’t ebb.  She quickly sent Winston a text to where she was and she pulled out the package of cigarettes.  Was it something she should be doing?  She knew better, but at the moment she didn’t see much choice or any options.  She inhaled the smoke as long as she knew Winston wasn’t able to see.  Quickly, she put it out, pulling her knees up as she balanced precariously.

As soon as Winston got the text, he headed on over.  It only took Winston a short walk to get to the park and he immediately spotted her. The place was pretty much empty except for a few kids running around, but they seemed lost in their own world and Rasha — Rasha was the only one sitting up so high. 

He took a moment to look up at her, seeing if she’d come down, but she didn’t look like she much wanted to go anywhere, so he awkwardly climbed up to her and sat beside her. 

Well…I am already at a park.  How about I message you the map?

Sounds great. Meet you there.

That would be great, Winston! No, I do not need anything.  I am okay.

Well you lead the way, m’lady.

Does anyone want to go for a walk with me?  The family I’m with is throwing a party and I don’t speak Bengal…and I didn’t sleep last night and the 5 cups of coffee is making me sick.

Of course, Rasha. I’ll walk with you. But maybe we should get some food in you, too.

I resent the fact that you seem unsure of my goat caretaking abilities.

To be fair, I haven’t seen a single animal at the Hollingsworth house since I’ve known all of you and didn’t you kill the plant that you had in your room?

“What do you think?” he asked once he finished his routine.

School starts tomorrow so there’s only one thing to do… stay up all night and stress out about it. I don’t have any supplies ready, you can already tell it’s going to be a good year. The only thing a girl needs is her 3 ringed binder, right? 

I’ve got some extra notebooks if you need some.

Please tell me why it’s frowned upon to adopt a baby goat as a household pet? I love my goldfish dearly, but it’s a little difficult cuddling a fish bowl.

“Chewy,” Miles said, putting his hand on Winston’s shoulder. “If you do that at the party, I’ll have to pretend like I don’t know you,” he joked. 

“Those were some solid moves and you know it.”

Here’s to hoping the party will give me an idea of who’s worth giving the time of day, and others who I should probably avoid. Even if I do already have a few opinions on that from who I already know pretty well. 

“Come on, man. Can’t it just be a party? You know,  drinks, music, dancing?” He performed an awkward little shimmy dance as he spoke the last word.
