ROSEMARY APPLEBEE.
Rosemary wasnât sure what she was expecting. Each year they returned home, Carter left a little more and more of her at the castle. âCarterââ Rosemary sighed, her voice strained as she watched her sister. Why would Christmas be any different, why did Carter hate what she came from so vehementlyâ why didnât she try even just for a day to pretend to care? There were so many unanswered questions she had. âEveryone out there is beinâ lovely. Itâs Christmas and mama probably worked hard for your dress this year. Is it really so much to ask?â Rosemary didnât try to mask the pain in her voice, it was useless anyways. There were some things you just couldnât hide from your sister. âSeriously, you smell like a bar. Get up, Iâll help you get ready.â
Bless her sisterâs heart, bless it, because even throughout all of this agony Carter knew she was causing her the girl wanted to help her. Despite this all, despite the fact that Carter was just a little bit drunk still, Rosemary was willing to help her. She knew her sister didnât deserve the flack she got, she knew she didnât deserve to be this middle woman, but Carter also knew that she was selfish. Her selfishness had saved her but at home there wasnât a place for it when her sister was involved. Sighing, she started to get up, wobbling a bit, âfine, Rose, fine. Because I love you, Iâll get up. But why canât you just understand how I feel?? For once?? I just -- Iâd say Iâm sorry but Iâm not sorry for who I am and I feel like itâs all yâall want me to be is sorry. Sorry all the time and just -- â she didnât finish but what she meant to say was miserable. It was like they wanted her to be M I S E R A B L E.Â
