who: @charxma
where: the supernova kickoff party
kennedy was a big believer in bathroom etiquette; she did not like to be approached for an autograph when she was waiting in line to pee or to take a selfie while she was touching up her lipstick in the mirror (she'd learned that one the hard way when the horrors of fluorescent lighting appeared on her fyp the next morning). you had to let people be human. but this was different, wasn't it? because they were supposed to be peers, at least on some level? she was a professional, tati was a professional, and even though she was perhaps a bit too stoned to be taking conversational risks, she could come up with something normal to say. "i used to have a poster of you on my ceiling."
that could potentially be the least normal thing she'd ever said! time for damage control. "not in a weird way. i had lots of posters up there. lots of bands. anyways, i like your shoes." she briefly considered how to enter the witness protection program.
Years spent in the industry, with one party after another, one star then another, Tati pretty much stopped noticing people around her. They registered presence, of course, she wasn't oblivious to her surroundings, but for the most part she stuck to her thoughts and moved through the motions.
When Kennedy spoke up, a smile dug into their cheeks before they even managed to put the name to the face. Once they did, a smile reached her eyes too, became more genuine. "Damn, for a moment there you had me feelin' special." she finished washing her hands and reached up for a paper towel. Eyes remained on the other briefly before they dug out their vape. "My shoes?" a soft chuckle, "Thank you, I like your shoes too." perhaps the other felt a bit nervous, it was hard for Tati to tell now that her gummies had kicked in. "You know what's real killer though? Your voice." Tati paused as their head tilted slightly to the side. "I'm a bit of a fan. Maybe if posters were still a thing I'd uh, I'd put you up among a bunch of awesome people too." that sure came full circle. A flush from the toilet stall behind them snapped her out of thought, that's when they gestured towards the door. "You wanna join me for a drink?"
WHO : slater & tati ( @charxma ) WHEN : post - performance ! WHERE : the kickoff party !
" DID YOU SEE MEI'S FACE WHEN WE WERE UP THERE ?" the question comes not long after they've shut the door to their ride out , the door to the vehicle cutting off the cries of fans with the kind of abruptness that almost makes the absence of sound louder . slater is currently slumped in their seat , taking off their sunglasses and promptly tossing them who knows where into the car for them to discover later . " the lights were too fucking bright . i couldn't see the look on their face ." they glance out of the tinted window with a squint as they look for rock , knowing that she herself had gotten separated from tati and rock after the performance but that the intention to meet at the car and get the fuck out of there had been a semi unspoken agreement . but they probably should've spoke about it a bit to like — confirm a time or something . slater's grin grows even as they scan the world outside the window , a glint in their gaze that can perhaps only come from competitive spite . " bet it was fucking good though ..."
"Hold this." Tatiana passed the freshly lit zoot and proceeded to dig through her miniscule purse for another ibuprofen. "My head is fucking pounding, I can't believe they made us preform, can you believe they made us do that? Just like that?" the whole situation rubbed Tati the wrong way. And they were far too overstimulated in every sense of the word, to fully bother breaking down what exactly made them feel that way. "Whatever, I don't give a shit 'bout that bitches' envy, what's there to envy anyway? Being treated like circus animals? They straight up lit a bunch of hoops on fire and then made us hop though, fuck all this. I had like four minutes of vocal warm-up. Ridiculous." she shoved the ibuprofen into her mouth and reached back for the smoke. It made them feel somewhat better to see a slight grin on Slaters face as they spotted her reflection in the dark window of their ride. But it was also altogether possible she'd imagined it. "You sounded real good tonight though, bet they thought they'd catch us lacking. We fucking killed that." a sense of pride washed over her, eased their nerves. Or maybe it was the smoke. "Where'd you disappear after?" suddenly, she hopped forward inside the car, grabbing the drivers attention just in time for him to swerve. "There's an awesome pizza joint opened up 'round the corner. Italian style and they do vegan cheese it's fucking sick." Tati wasn't asking, really, if the other wanted to come. It was a stop along the way now. "We'll grab some and circle back for Rock, fuck knows where they are."
the britneys candids
@charxma @k4rmic
"and who's fault is that? i don't have any problems with the pr team," they tease, taking a hit of their vape. rock never had the same problems when it came to pr like tati and slater. they were kind and outgoing, perhaps their only problem was that they overshared things but that was usually overshadowed by slaters attitude or tati's political rants. they loved them both but they knew their managers were sick of their bullshit after all this time.
"thank my moms for that, they gave me all my artistic abilities." they weren't much of a poet, but rock was pretty good at stringing words together for songs, the real heart came out on stage though. it was easier to write songs about their feelings and sing it than to actually say it. they lean back on their arms, looking up at tati. they shrug slightly, always playing coy when it came to their feelings because there was no way they would ever admit who their true muse was. this stupid crush has come and gone so many times over the years, they will never tell. "nah, you know i'm not looking for anything serious. my focus is on you-" a split second falter before adding "- and slater. the band and this tour means more right now."
they push off their seat and grab the vodka bottle to take one last swig, hissing at the burn in their throat before passing it back to tati. "ready to do this thing?"
"Well," she stretched out the word, eyes narrowed in a playful manner, "I'm not the one to point fingers, as we all well know." a chuckle, because that was most certainly not a true statement. "But it's Slater. Slater's the sole reason we cannot hold onto a PR team, and for some of us," thumbs pointed back at themselves, "-- the reason we cannot hold on to our sanity either." it was all in good spirit, of course. Nothing Rock hasn't heard before in different words. And although there were times Tatiana felt genuinely bad for putting them in a position where they had to play mediator, or hold down the fort, there were times she felt convinced they were exactly where they wanted to be. Finally, their shoulders relaxed and they rolled their eyes gently. Because Rock was also incredibly disarming. "Fine, I may have caused a bitch or two to quit as well but, those boil down more to differences in opinion and vision, as opposed to them being genuinely terrified of me." not that a reason really mattered, if the outcome was exactly the same.
"I'll make sure to ring 'em up and thank them but, I don't know, I think your talents have always been uniquely your own." it was a compliment, sure, but it was also the truth. "Like, even before we've... I guess made it, you had this thing about you. When you play it's impossible to look away it's...it's magnetic, you know? You're talented, but you're also...skilled. You're hardworking, you're dedicated you're...frankly, there are days I genuinely wonder why the fuck you don't ditch us and go solo and then, well then I remember you're also just a great fucking person too and it's, like damn leave some for the rest of us y'know?" they hadn't realized they'd stopped what they were doing, not until her attention was pulled back to Rock's features. Eyes settled on theirs, and she supposed if anyone deserved to hear some praise, it was them. "I don't think I ever told you but, for a while there you were like the only reason I staid in this band." she had different reasons to join, and different reasons now that she still sticks with it, but there was a good period of time where -- had it not been for Rock -- they would have walked off. How different their life would have been. "I'm glad I did." which was just a different way of saying 'I'm glad you're here'.
"Amazing. Until you find something serious I will happily provide you with the unserious shenanigans you know and love," they took the vodka as the other passed, and took a long swing. "-- I'm ready."

zarrah could tell almost straight away that she had picked the right person for this mission of hers. she glanced behind them and saw the red pixie cut coming towards them. whoever it was looked like they were on a mission of their own. "we need to pick up the pace." she told them as zarrah wrapped an arm around their waist as to not be lost in the crowd without them. "we can probably lose her in that crowd if we move fast enough." zarrah pointed out as she tried to figure out an exit strategy for the two of them. no way manic pixie freddie kreuger was going to get them if zarrah had her way.
A wave of utter relief washed over her as the other not only agreed to help, but actively guided her through the crowd. With a smile, they nodded at the instruction and when their eyes set sight on the fire exit, Tati rushed towards it. "This way," she said, and once they reached the door, she quickly pushed them open and started climbing upwards. She'd had been on the roof before, three years ago, and was surprised to find the entrance locked this time around.
The chill of the fresh air relaxed her instantly, and without much hesitation or effort, they took out their wallet. "Don't tell anyone 'bout this, yeah?" with a quick wink, they turned back towards the door and using one of their old fake ID's they cracked the door open. "It only works on shitty doors like this, trust me I'm no Houdini." a quick explanation as she held them open for her. "The view is worth some mild breaking and entering. I've no idea when they locked this shit up anyway, they were open last time I was here."
With that now behind them, and a stunning view in front of them, Tati took out a flask, a pre-roll and a box of cigarettes. "Pick your poison?"
the watching — that kind of thing was still novelty to meera. she'd spent a lifetime desperate for it, after all: her parents in a sea of sisters, friends as she drifted around the world, never really feeling the roots of companionship, her desperation to have her voice, her music heard before honeydew had fallen in her lap. she doesn't pick up on any of the exhaustion or apprehension behind the eyes of the veterans of industry, well-hidden or not. she simply couldn't imagine ever being exhausted by it. by being seen, known, loved. she's hungry for it, enough to make herself sick for a much longer time than three days. enough to do just about anything. " don't worry. i haven't gotten sick on a night out since i was seventeen. you're looking at a seasoned pro, tatiana. " a beat of nervous silence as they arrive at the table, arm in arm and thinking all things supernova. she pops a macaron in her mouth and pink crumbs tumble out: " except for macaron-ing i suppose. and touring. but i am really excited. beyond excited, actually. i think i was vibrating harder than my alarm clock when i woke up this morning. "
"Well you're sure better than me then. I had to stop drinking very early in my career because the tabloids were ripping me to shreds. God forbid a girl has a crazy night out and shows off some side-boob." she paused, thinking back. "Suppose it's not that big of a deal anymore, we've come a long way. Now I need to fear drinking too much and saying something stupid on twitter. The internet is not forgiving." and boy was that on their mind. Constantly. So much of Tatiana's life was private now. They had a twitter, but they only posted approved content mostly relating to political and environmental activism. And lately, their PR team shared stuff about the tour, she only skimmed through on occasion out of sheer curiosity. But private life was also a good life, isolating in a way but, it's not as though she really had anything to compare it to at this point in time. "I'm excited to watch you guys preform, I am genuinely a fan. The label really did their magic with you guys. I mean, the talent, the sexiness, the vibes...you really got it all. You're gonna do great, trust me." Tati took one of the vegan options off the food table and washed it down with some water. "Tell you what, once the tour is done, I'm getting you a box of macarons from France and we're grabbing some early cocktails. How's that?"
" IT WAS LITERALLY TWO ." slater's tone is deadpan as they arch their brows tati's way , their own eyes rolling in response to the expression on her face like some sort of domino effect . unfortunately , even years of proximity couldn't do much for incompatibility , and while some part of slater grudgingly has to admit that they perhaps function better with tati more than most other people , that doesn't quite mean they have to like it . their partnership felt like something that was welded into slater's skin more forcefully than voluntarily , a piece that irritatingly near perfectly fit despite their distaste and years of protest . and yet fit they did . and well too . they had the fucking decorated albums to prove it unfortunately . and now they were fucking stuck with her . forever , presumably . slater resumes their search for their lighter with renewed urgency . " if she calls a meeting just don't fucking go ." slater replies bluntly as they turn their jean pockets inside out before huffing and promptly beginning to look inside their boot . " i sure won't ." the boot is taken off and turned upside down . no lighter . jesus fuck . " and you're really going to talk about my shampoo when you probably use that vegan-natural-no-aluminum- tree- hugging -sun-salutation bullshit for deodorant ?" the look slater shoots tati's way is bland if not for the glimmer of amusement in the depths of their eyes . the finger they give tati is held high . " bite me ." a twist of their features as they move to pull off their other boot and upend it once more . the curse slater utters is quiet but sharp in annoyance at the search , a distracted huff escaping them as they begin to , quite seamlessly begin to look through tati's shit for a lighter instead . " and stay the fuck out of my hair ." " can't believe you're kinkshaming the fucking bee ." a drawer is opened , the contents squinted at . no lighter . the drawer is slammed closed . " kinda fucked up when you think about it . thought you loved nature ." another drawer is opened , glanced over , shut . " did you watch it sober ?" a squint tatiana's way as their eyes glance over her scrutinizingly before they're turning back to their task with a roll of their eyes , " because if you did you didn't do it right ." slater is in the midst of looking consideringly at tati's suitcase before their next words catch her attention , her gaze flicking to them to say , " considering i barely want to go to this thing in the first place , yeah , i'm down ." an arch of their brow . " we could also just fucking ditch . that's an option ." the implication that they ditch together is one that slater doesn't fully register in their search , ringed fingers carefully picking through tati's jewelry collection in hopes of finding a fucking bic lighter . or even one of those shitty novelty ones . matches . slater will take fucking anything at this point . this one ? slater's glance to tati is narrowed in bewilderment . " what ? no ." their gaze falls back to the task at hand distractedly . " the one you wore to that one after party with the — is this fucking mine ?" the ring glints in the lights of tati's room as they pluck it from her collection , her eyes narrowed as she turns the thing this way and that in effort to place it . it was either hers or it should be . the thick ring is being turned over in their fingers until the mention of mei , at which point slater freezes for a full second before , " ... i'm not fucking talking about them right now ." the narrow of their gaze is a palpable thing , their eyes hardening before the ring is tossed back into the pile dismissively with maybe more force than necessary . the clench of their jaw is tight as they resume their search for a lighter with perhaps more force than required . " mei can go fuck herself , how about that ?"
"Just don't go..." Tatiana repeated the words back mockingly, before eyes shifted to Slater, "You're like the least reassuring person that's ever lived. Have I ever told you that? I probably told you that." her eyes remained on them as they searched through pockets, boots and the rest of their clothing material for, presumably, a lighter. Tati had one in her pocket, it was a mix of pettiness and curiosity alone that made her keep that information to herself, and observe as Slater got progressively more annoyed. "What's wrong with 'vegan-natural-no-aluminum- tree- hugging -sun-salutation' -- fuck, try to say that fast three times, deodorant?" a small laugh still escaped their lips, it was a clever way to put it, even if it wasn't at all a clever dig. Smoothly, they repaid the middle finger in kind. "I feel like if you allowed me to do your hair just one time, we might finally reach the next level of this beautiful blossoming friendship, you know? Might even be the first legitimate step to full-on world peace."
Her eyes narrowed as they gently guided Slater away from their own suitcase, which absolutely did not have a lighter, but did have several items that would cause the other to recoil and potentially regret mentioning a kink shame just a moment prior. Still, attention remained on the movie. "Did you find the bee relatable Slater?" there's a playful smile on their lips before nodding, "I was high actually, I may have accidently dozed off halfway through the movie. I actually have no idea if the bee ended up fucking the human woman or not but uh, shit, I guess you're right maybe I just didn't watch it right."
Finally they were back to the jewelry discussion, and Tati was just about to continue searching for the 'right' necklace when Slater pulled out their ring. "Bitch I don't know. Maybe?" it sure did not look like something Tati would wear, "And don't look at me like that, you're the one who leaves their shit everywhere. It's no wonder you can't find anything, ever..." finally, as if to prove a point, she took the lighter out of her pocket and tossed it for Slater to catch. They were one drawer slam away from breaking something anyway.
"Too bad. Because I want to talk about it." they were about to head on tour together, headline together. Tatiana needed to know the extent of a problem this might prove itself to be. "Cold shoulder, she can go fuck herself, that's fine. Anything more than that..."
yewande was totally cool about hanging out with tatiana sutton. well, other than the blabbering, but that was pretty normal for them anyway, and for the choking, but come on, she was out or practice. other than that, she was totally cool. calm. collected. cool, calm, collected. cool, calm, collected. the mantra echoed in their head like the beat of a song, trying to pull them back down to earth and hold them steady. "absolutely, i'm keeping that fun fact locked right up here." aiming to tap the side of their head, window to the brain, they ended up jabbing themself in the eye. so they needed more than a mantra to keep them steady, but you had to give them credit for breezing past it once again, continuing to chat even as their eye blinked repeatedly, flinching to recover from the jab and from tati's teasing. "but you've gotta pinky promise to use it at the next two truths and a lie sesh on the tour buses. totally understand what you mean about the parties though, it's like, everyone thinks it's so cool to be surrounded by all these stars, but it's not like we're not stars too. i mean, especially you. you've been doing this forever. me, i mean, it's all really new, but sometimes there's so much happening that i can't even take it all in to really process it. it's a little too fast sometimes." the confession was one of the first real things she'd said all night, and she hadn't even meant to let it out. tame as it was, yewande felt embarrassed to express anything other than the happy camper role she'd been assigned. to cope, they took another (successful) drag from their cigarette, finally letting silence hang in the air for a moment.
"I do solemnly swear," Tati raised her pinky up, placing it in the space between them that was growing smaller by the minute. "-- I will use that fact in our next 'two truths and a lie' game, while we're on the buses. You know what would be so fun?" brows rose with excitement, as she still kept their fingers intertwined. "If we cheated and like, told each other the answers in advance. We could have everyone believing we're like, soulmates. Or that we secretly knew each other for years. Could you imagine the looks? Oh that would be so wild." Tati often searched for ways to spice up long journeys, to make people laugh, to draw positive attention. And if her little ploys called for more active participants, all the better.
Yewande was endearing to them. Something about the slightly awkward demeanor, or the way she so expertly attuned to Tatiana's ego. Or the way she spoke so openly. Whatever it was, they found themselves enjoying her company. Thoroughly. "No I get it. I still think 2016 was like two years ago. Time fucking flies. And it's always one thing after another, and it doesn't stop. It never stops. And when it does, it's like, you don't really use that time to really reflect it's, it's just onto the next thing, you know? Planning ahead, moving forward and, fuck, I don't know. Sometimes I think a hiatus would be nice too but, shit I can't do that. I'm not...Rihanna. Or George RR Martin." it wasn't even the matter of relevance. Tati was pretty sure she could manage to stay relevant even outside of their music career. Some days they felt their time energy would be better spent if they fully committed to politics, activism, fundraising. Or chasing some other dream. Most of their income was outside of music anyway, from various investments and business ventures. And yet Rock and Slater were a part of her now, something she was not willing to let go, or disappoint. And they needed her. Or perhaps, she just hoped they did. Because she needed them. Or maybe she did not want to admit just how deeply they actually loved music. Loved what they did.
But all that was left unsaid.
"Hey, so uh, how do you feel about brunch tomorrow?" question was sudden, but casual, comfortable. "I could have you picked up, we could discuss the tour and overshare our lives over some overpriced mimosas. Are you down?"
just as the outside air appears to put tati at ease , v feels the tightness in her chest loosen slightly. she leans against the wall , hands in her jacket pockets as she watches the other bring a cigarette to their lips . shrugging noncommittally , she gives a hum of acknowledgement at tati's thanks before tilting her head back , eyes shut as she lets the night air surround her . she wonders how often she'll find opportunities like this in the coming months , just a couple minutes to breathe while rest of the world keeps moving without her . one eye opens at tati's question . ❛ not really , no , ❜ she answers , but her eyes zero in on the cig for a few moments before she shifts her gaze elsewhere . as has become instinct , she waves off the apology . ❛ no worries . i get it . ❜ she was starting to think hectic was their new normal . ❛ yeah , i think so . dare i say , we might even be a little excited about it , ❜ she quips . ❛ you ? ❜
Tati noticed the way the others eyes lingered on her cigarette, so she offered it out instinctively before pulling back at the others response. They often hid the habit, it was bad for her 'brand', as well as, plethora of other things she willfully chose to ignore. And yet, of all the vices they had ditched over the years, this seemed to be the most difficult to abandon.
"You're not a gal of many words, huh?" it was refreshing, in a way. But Tatiana had an awful tendency to kill the silence wherever they could, and it made them feel obnoxious. It was altogether lucky for V, that Tati was not in a particularly chatty mood. "Excited is good. You guys will do awesome, you are awesome." she exhaled a long puff of smoke and took in a shallow breath. "We're uh, we're ready to go, you know? Every tour feels like...the first one. To me, personally. I always get a bit in my head about it before we take off. It's the same with like, planes and...hot people." a chuckle left their lips before a gentle shrug. "D'you get nervous?"

rock nodded along with tatiana's ramblings, so used to this over the years they have been together. "you'd think for the world's biggest tour for the label, they would spring for some good vegan options," they add to tati's ranting. the jumping from one topic to the next with anxious hurry, rock's brain worked the same way as hers. it's probably why they have worked so well together over the years, they get each other. "yeah no, there's only one peacock in this band and it's me, sorry babe," they said with a laugh. rock has been known to wear some wild things out on stage, though that wasn't their every day wear. today they were in a pretty simple monochrome brown outfit, simple, but hot enough for attention. "the vision is so clean, babe, you will have all of twitter drooling over you."
rock rolls their head over their shoulders at tati's probing, bashfulness playing on their face but whether it was real or fake, it would be hard to say. rock was proud of the songs they wrote; the love songs, the break up songs, the emotional ones. slater was a master at the darker feelings and putting that into poetry, but rock was the band's resident lover-boy. "i've got a couple on the burners, but i don't know, not ready to share yet." they laugh lightly, ear burning at tati's words but tried to play it off as if it was nothing. it had been two years since their last serious relationship, and while their ex had inspired quite a few songs on the last album, they weren't sure they wanted a relationship right before a huge tour. "well, tonight will be a perfect time," they joke, "a party full of queer girls, maybe my next muse will be there."
rock swallowed when tati moved into their space, eyes locking with hers as the tone switched to more serious issues. "don't you worry, i haven been keeping slater in check for half our lives, i'll do my best to not let anything happen tonight." the last thing they needed was some huge pr scandal the night before the tour started, that was not the way they needed to go viral. but, knowing slater, that was easier said than done. one wrong word and they could fly off the handles. "i got you, i'll stay with slater, make sure nothing happens with her and mei, and then the three of us can regroup and get the fuck out of there for our own party."
at the sound of the bell, rock sighed and leaned back against the wall. ready to eat and get this show on the road.
"They're punishing us for making it impossible to keep a PR team. Soon there won't be enough money in the world to force some poor fucker into taking us on." she laughed, though she'd always found their continuous unwillingness to conform rather charming. For whatever it was worth, three of them remained exactly who they always were. And it was a comfort, to know they had each other, that they could make it through tough shit and come out the other end better than before. Tati may have had a family, but their band was their chosen family. The kind they had to work for, sacrifice and compromise for, the kind that ran deeper than blood. "Easy for you to peacock around when you can pull anything off. Last time I tried to experiment, the internet ripped me to shreds. How long was I a meme for? Six, seven months? Shit, I bet I still am I just don't see that shit." screen time was limited for Tati, a necessary evil following her inability to stay out of deeply-complex political discussions with ragebait maga morons which were now also legitimized members of the government. "All of twitter drooling over me, huh? God if only the world loved me as much as you do." she laughed, pulling them into a quick hug before another long drag of smoke.
Tati felt more relaxed, as if some weird sort of anticipatory anxiousness just drained from their body. "I'm sure they're awesome anyway. You got that...soul of an artist, you know? Sometimes I wonder what that must be like...to love like that. To be loved like that. I mean I sing it out an' all but, it's like...like...I don't know." she let out a gentle sigh, the fact she had no words to fully wrap up that thought was enough proof she had no business songwriting either. Tatiana was only good with words when it came to discussions, politics, analysis, correct ways to work in ads and promos. Feelings? Now that was a whole different mountain, kind they could seldom cross. "Right." smile was on, but their heart sank at the mere prospect of Rock truly getting themselves a new 'muse'. Two years of them being single, perhaps she'd gotten selfishly used to keeping them for herself. "I mean you never know, have you uh," they looked down to their hands, finger scratching gently at her temple. "-- have you got your eye on anyone?"
Grateful that the topic shifted back to Slater, they quickly nodded in agreement and left it at that. Rock had it under control, tonight would be awesome and they would dip early and come back to this messy apartment to smoke up and laugh at whatever bullshit inevitably goes down. A solid plan, a great fucking night.
" IF NO ONE PISSES ME OFF ," slater mumbles around an unlit cigarette , searching their person for their lighter . they can't exactly remember where they put it but they're sure they put it somewhere . the pocket of their leather jacket is distractedly turned inside out , " or plays taylor swift at a fucking kick off party , then i won't have a reason to talk shit ." the pinch of slater's nose is pronounced at the thought even as they catch the bottle that tati has slid their way without hesitation , moving to pour themself a shot only to blink at the lack of shot glass and quite decidedly commandeer tati's with a mumble of , " you make it sound like i'm the fucking problem here ." the cigarette is pulled from the corner of their lips in favour of the shot glass , which knocked back smoothly and swiftly as tati chatters about -- movies ? the hum in the back of slater's throat something pleased at the taste as they put the glass down and quite immediately begin to pour another . " the bee movie is a masterpiece and you're a fucking snob ." the tone is deadpan as slater carefully turns the shot glass in a way that they hope will avoid tati's lipstick stain , cigarette poised in the divet between their ring and middle finger . " and i didn't recommend it . i said i watched it and then you watched it . that's different ." their brows furrow as tati finishes , bewildered as their gaze finds her . " you'll look fine without my help ?" despite the objection years of practice has let slater know that they should probably mentally prepare to help with the jewelry regardless . their tongue kisses their teeth as they gesture vaguely to their throat . " wear the -- " their fingers snap in an attempt to remember the exact words required to paint the picture . " you know , the one with the thing . makes your boobs look like that ." another , vaguer gesture towards their ear . " and then those earrings ."
"See that's like...way too many 'ifs'." and she knew they weren't joking either, what Slater meant Slater said. Their eyes were not refrained from an eyeroll, even if they were incredibly good at maintaining their facial expressions, Tati never did that in front of the other. There was never really any need. Slater disliked her to start with so their relationship was built on a foundation of raw honesty and not giving a shit. It served them both well now. "You're not 'not' the problem. I mean I got your back or whatever, but we literally just got the new PR chick and she is standing on fucking business so, if we have to wake up at dawn to have a meeting about media training and conduct again, I will put Nair hair remover in your shampoo. D'you even use shampoo? Or are you more of a...three-in-one sort of person?" the last bit made her laugh, as she downed another shot and brows furrowed.
"That bee wanted fuck that human woman." an offhand comment as they ignored the distinction between a recommendation and a simple mention. Tatiana had a bit of an obsessive need to dive into her friends likes and interests, whether they liked it or not. A poor attempt to somehow feel closer. There was period in their life they got really into competitive pumpkin rowing, otherwise known as pumpkin regatta, because her boyfriend mentioned placing third during a competition in Oregon. She still had a ton of outfits she managed to keep from days spent doing LARPING in NYC, a hobby she actually kept even after breaking up with a partner that got her into it. So much of their life was developed through others, there were times she wondered if anything was really just her own. "Anyways, Rock and I thought if any of us feel like shit or the night gets dull, we just get together and dip? Do our own thing back here? You down?"
It was a gentle furrow as they tried to recall what Slater's gestures might've insinuated, but it eventually clicked. She pulled out the necklace, "This one?" it was a decent choice, they were right. They picked the earrings themselves, new set to match the necklace. But she ended up not liking them so she took them off and reached for her vape. "Mei's gonna be there tonight," Tati treaded carefully, not looking over at them as she spoke, her focus was on her phone screen.
Mei recognized the voice before she saw the face that went with it. Tatiana. It had been a little while since they'd spoken. Nothing outrageous, but long enough that she wouldn't like to be meeting reconnecting right now. "Aw, Tati, is that your way of saying you won't tell me what I missed?" she said playfully.
Though Mei picked up on the dig, they chose to ignore it. "Thank you. I've been looking for a good reason to wear this dress out. This party is perfect, isn't it?" they said with a smile. She took the cigarette from them, holding it out so they could light it before bringing it to her lips. "Nope. We didn't come together. Did you all come together?" she asks, gesturing a little without actually saying The Britneys.
"Oh MM, my love, I could fill the ocean with all the things you've missed. But since missing out is usually a deliberate choice on your part, I reserve the right to choose not to waste my breath on catching you up either." she placed a cigarette back to her lips, regretting the consumption of alcohol and the wearing effect of indica gummies. They really did not want to do this now, but Mei had always been a soft spot, and perhaps Tati missed her. Perhaps they were too stubborn to actually admit that Mei had made the right choice, for herself, for her career. "I'm sure whatever you chose to do instead of being here was a superior motive anyway."
Quick click against their cigarette got rid of the ash, and she took in a quiet breath. Her cup was now a diet coke with lemon in a whiskey cup, so she sipped it slowly. "The label sure did their thing. Food's lacking but, yeah pretty perfect. Far cry from what it was six years ago, huh?" things have changed, and change was good. Sometimes. And sometimes it was nothing more than a clear indication that life was moving fast, and forward, and there was no real time to pause, no time to stop and breathe. "We came together." she confirmed, "As we usually do." and some things never changed. "Are you guys all set for the tour?"
DAISY JONES & THE SIX — Track 8: Looks Like We Made It
mei is the type to show up late to a party on purpose. she is. why? because the best way to make an entrance is to make sure everyone is there to see it. which is precisely what she does tonight. has she pregamed before showing up? absolutely. mei doesn't have a problem but she doesn't not have a problem, either. but being a little tipsy only makes her entrance all the grander. she steps into the party, tossing her hair behind her shoulder, and goes to find a drink. "hope i haven't missed too much," she says to the person next to her. @supernovainfo
As was to be expected, Mei showed up late and grand, turning heads and breaking the monotony of an event well on it's way. Tatiana always worked hard to control her face around the other. It wasn't that they truly disliked Mei, not as Slater may have done. But when bad blood spilt it splattered many places. For Izzy's sake, Tati maintained a cordial relationship and indulged an occasional conversation. But when interactions could be avoided, they absolutely were.
"I'm sure whatever you've missed will be available for you online by the time you finish brewing your morning coffee." she said softly, with a nonchalant shrug. "You look lovely. No wonder you're late. This look must've taken a while." it was a gentle dig, but they offered a friendly cigarette out before lighting their own. "Izzy arrive with you?"

v raises a brow at the ask , but assents nonetheless , grabbing an empty glass and filling it as requested . she adds two cocktail straws before sliding it over on a napkin . she hadn't yet spent much time with the other bands – barring her cousin , of course – but it'd be a lie if she said she wasn't aware of who tati was , remembers listening to the britneys debut album back in high school . she's sipping at her drink when tati mentions taking a breather outside , and v hesitates ( she's quickly approaching the antisocial time limit the label has imposed ) . but she nods once and approaching the bartender she spoke to earlier . with an easy smile , she asks where the back door is , gesturing slightly towards tati . she returns to tati , holding out a hand . ❛ c'mon , ❜ she says. ❛ i think i bought us like three minutes . ❜
She took the perfectly crafted drink and the first sip was enough to ease her nerves. Eyes fixed on V through the growing headache, and it wasn't long at all before the other returned to guide them outside through the back. Smile had to be forced through the pain and annoyance and overstimulation, but it was well earned. Once outside, hit by the fresh air and a moment of relative quiet, Tati took in a deep breath and let the tension in their body ease. "I actually fucking owe you for this, thank you." they spoke through a cigarette hanging between their lips as they dug through their purse for a triptan. "You smoke?" she downed her pill, lit up her cigarette and finally shifted her entire focus onto the other. "Sorry I dragged you out, my social battery's in the fucking gutter right now. This week's been hectic, you know how it is." half a decade, that's how long 'do not disturb' has been in the industry. There was likely very little V wouldn't understand. "You guys ready? For the tour?
"oh my god, you're so right. like, it's a door, not a bridge. no need to act like a troll blocking the way!" yewande laughed a little too hard at tatiana's passing joke. she couldn't help it when her heart sped up like this, still enamored with their presence even after so many meetings. "and no yeah, i was actually just thinking that i wanted to stay out here for a few more minutes anyway." the laziness of their stride was a touch too performed as they sidle up to tati to take the cigarette. it felt natural in her hand, even though she'd abandoned the habit once she started taking singing more seriously. she could hear their vocal coach's admonishing squawk as she held it out for a light, but what tatiana sutton wanted, tatiana sutton got. "so how would you say this party compares to the ones you're used to? probably more fun since me and the honeydew girls are here." but before yewande can punctuate her self-flattery with a charming wink at tati, she chokes on a loooong drag of her cigarette, so badly that she doubles over.
"Well, yes, exactly." she laughed, "I'm revealed you agree, I'd have hated for you to think I'm a moron incapable of figuring out a slide door. Which is, you know, kind of exactly what happened but, I'm not gonna lie I was the sort of bitch to pull on a push door since I was a wee little girl. Fun fact for ya' in case we ever play two truths and a lie or somethin'..." head tilted as they admitted to a long-standing rivalry with simple means of passage, and heart settled in their chest as the other agreed to stay. "Well awesome, I won't be long."
With a swift click of their lighter, Tati leaned in to spark the others cigarette. Eyes lingered on her features a moment too long before she pulled away and took a drag of her own smoke. A sweet laugh brewed in her tummy where it remained. "I wasn't gonna come until I heard you guys would be here so, yeah I mean you're definitely onto something." sarcasm was sweet, well-intentioned.
"These things really do get repetitive. The food's worse every year, the company is...hit or miss and, fuck, I don't know -- I don't want to sound ungrateful or stuck up but, there comes a point during each event where I'm like 'fuck, I could be home right now, chilling' you know?" there were other reasons for that, besides the aforementioned, but it was not worth digging deeper into that before she knew it was actually safe to share. Trust came hard, even in sweet company. "But tell me, how are you finding all this? Besides, lacking in air that is." curiosity etched into their brows, and she leaned back against the balcony wall. "Two years since you got signed that's, I mean...tell me about it. What's that like? Have you guys adjusted, you know? Are you good, are you happy?"
