I have a soft spot for their kinship.

I also think about when the Darkling created the fold to help the grisha, I don't think he intentionally wanted to kill all the people in the nearby cities. Unintentional, yes, but happened nonetheless.

When he took everything away from her kingdom aka home, he also took away the 'R'.

What are the writers doing to Beth? She is one of my favorite  characters but even that is becoming debateable. It depends on what happens in season 3. The writers have the major responsibility to make one of the main protagonist likeable through the unlikeable moments.

Take Walter White from Breaking Bad for example. A chemistry teacher with a family living in the suburbs by day and crystal meth drug lord by night--- an anti-hero. His motivating factor was his family. He had cancer and wanted to ensure that his family was well taken care of even if he was gone. He turned to a life of crime. When he had rotten eggs, he actually took care of them. The writers have taken the audience and really took the time to take us through the emotions, actions, and motivations of the character. They developed the story and character arcs in a way that it still made sense. The writing was so good that there were times there was no dialogue and the audience just GOT IT. They just KNEW wtf was going on. No words needed. We celebrated with him through the good and stuck with him through the bad. Even when he was quite literally breaking bad, we understood him and still cared for him. He was a character that stayed likeable even through the unlikeable moments.

The second half of season 2 of GG especially the finale was a big jumbled mess. We needed more character development, more backstory, more dialogue, more action, more scenes, and more sense in general lol. And like the game of thrones fans say, "Foreshadowing   doesn't equal character development". They foreshadowed "To be the king you gotta kill the king" but they were missing the vital aspect of actually developing Beth's character to the point of getting there. For goodness' sakes she didn't even shoot him with intent. It was by accident. Instead, we get blank stares from Beth with little to no insight into her thoughts and feelings. The viewers are left to speculate, not really forming a strong connection with the character-- and we are two seasons in ya'll. We are left thinking if we actually read the character right. Did we even know Beth at all?

A majority are seeing Beth in a more negative, as opposed to positive light and that's not what you want for the supposed protagonist. You want your audience to still root for the main character. The good guy, but in this case, the good girl. Instead, the writing fell flat making us actually sympathize and side with the antagonists.

I'm starting to see why Turner wants to arrest her so bad. The white privilege, entitlement,  victimhood, lack of accountability, hiding behind a fasade are bleeding through. Beth's ability to lie through her teeth used to be framed like she's so clever, but it's starting take the opposite effect instead-- very snake-like 🐍. That's not a good look, hun. Keep the snakes in the garden.

Characters can be morally gray and still be likeable. These are the anti-heroes-- characters like Walter White, John Wick, Selina Kyle, Wade Wilson, Frank Castle, just to name a few. The show should stick to it's initial draw which is good girls doing bad things with well intentions.

I am having trouble seeing the point of it all. Like where even are the GG writers trying to take the audience?

So Beth quits the crime life and is done with 'book club' so she can have her kids back and keep her family safe. That's great. What doesn't make sense is once she got rid of her so called problem (Rio) she jumps right back into it? Like whaaaat? She's essentially re-joining book club as the damn group leader 🙄 What was the point? That erased the whole point of quitting in the first place. So now we are just supposed to accept her being a “crime lord” and still get to keep her children? What happened to the safety aspect?

Then there's the whole divorce papers yet she suggests they live together still? Are you leaving Dean or not Beth? Are you ever going to confront him for lying to you about having cancer? Are you forgiving him? Are you reconciling?

Then she's presenting her fake money project to Annie and Ruby even after she said it was her fault they got into the big mess in the first place. She's just digging deeper and bringing them all along with her.

Finally, there's the whole Rio mess. She wants him. She doesn't want him. She kicks him out of her life yet keeps hitting him up to help her. Then gets mad that he says she's just work (a lot of work if you ask me) 🤷 That's some wishy washy shit.

Wishy washy characters. Wishy washy plot. Wishy washy writers. And now they can add me to the list of wishy washy viewers because honestly, I'm missing the point of it all 🤷🙄

My frustration lies with Beth’s unwillingness to take accountability for her own decisions and actions. I understand that characters must have flaws to be relatable, but it should be well balanced so that the main character stays at least likeable through the unlikable moments. I want her to still be badass, but not a bad ass (as in bad = terrible) character.

Last episode, Beth only took blame for the ‘murder’ because she was backed into a corner, shit out of luck, and had to put her big girl panties on and own up. She was lucky enough that, coincidentally, Boomer takes responsibility (thanks to Nana) and was able to get off the hook.

Then what does Beth go and do? She reverts back to her usual way. She should be taking her finger and pointing at her herself, taking responsibility for her decisions and actions, yet we have her blaming an entirely different person (Rio) for all of her problems even goes as far as stating that HE is her problem. Wait. Wasn’t it Beth that sought Rio out after they were square and jumped back into the crime life? Getting all business savvy acting like she was this boss bitch that had everything handled and reaping all the benefits, but at every bad turn, who would she call for help? Rio-- and this is the person she shot. The person who believed she could be something more. The person who got the dubby back. She didn’t shoot Dean who cheated on her for many years, created the money problems, and lied about cancer. Not Boomer who tried to rape her sister. Not Mary Pat who blackmailed her. Not Turner who is non-stop harassing Ruby and doing the most to arrest her. It was Rio she shot because he’s the one who created her rotten eggs, right? Ha. If Rio survives, add a new rotten egg to the bunch.
