final flip book.

the pages struggle to flip smoothly - which is evident in the video. However I feel that this discusses times during this pandemic that feel erratic and static rather than running smoothly. There have been a lot of confusing times and I think that the imagery I have included explains this aswell. The shadows depicted don’t look like shadows as they are line-drawings so without knowing the inspiration behind it you wouldn’t have any understanding of what you’re seeing.

the final book i have made from scratch- cardboard covers stitched with neutral toned embroidery thread.

i developed the book by upgrading the binding style to coptic- it gives a way more professional look to it and i especially prefer the look of the binding.

i added covers to give it some finality but these might be detrimental to the ergonomics of it, as it won’t be as flexible.

i would probably change the binding style and amount of pages as it didn’t really flip properly.

i began by prepping frames to print out- it was important to make these the same size and placement in order for the book to turn out well.

finished making the book to put photos in. i thought that it would be easier to print out photos and prepare a book as i wasn’t too sure how to properly layout photos on the computer so that they would all be even.

3 Photoshop developments discussing the digital age and how society is using it to survive COVID-19. 

Very bright and not really my style but I reallylike the use of negative space and layering using opacities and pattern. 

One of my favourite developmets, I like the muted tones as it created a softness that isnt related to digital visual ideas at all. It reflects, to me, a lot of the ocean- photographs of an isolated lighthouse and the natural forms made from mono-printing reflect waves.

i found it quite hard to take the video and choose a section of it that had the smoothest movements.

i really like how this turned out. i made a simple sculpture out of modelling clay and found twigs to reflect back to nature - i also wanted to create a simple structure so that the shadows would be linear.

developed ideas from sculptural tile experiments to do with identity

i miniaturised and multiplied individual tiles indented with fingerprints, resembling blood cells (i think). white blood cells fight off infection, which is relevant to the virus in obvious ways. it also discusses identity as they are imprinted with DNA, finger print markings. it is relevant to point out that one way to pass bacteria along is by touching. i think it is also important to point out the mass of the cluster of sculptures can represent people let down by the governments way of handling the pandemic.

circling back to ideas of nature and impact, making connections with sculptural aspects of nature and medical aspects of the human body.
