Charli Torres

There was something about the girls tone, the way she said her words that didn’t exactly come through as genuine. It caused Violet to get the smallest bit uneasy about even saying out loud what she’d thought about getting previously. Maybe it was seen as overdone, maybe it seemed cutesy, but that wasn’t why she thought about getting it. Violet liked the thought of the tattoo because of how it represented that life could be both delicate and tenacious. “What was your first?” 

Charli didn’t judge people for the tattoos they got, or she didn’t intend to because, while it may be overdone, for some people it had a genuine meaning. She just got tired of doing the same thing over and over again. “My first tattoo? It was this sunflower in an embroidery style.” She stretched out her arm and flipped it to show the girl the tattoo.

“it’s a really fucking weird film, charli. bubblegum colors, wacky clown eyes, it’s scar anyone, even an adult. i swear by that.” he almost wanted to make her watch it, but at the same time, didn’t want to watch it with her if she offered, knowing full well, he’d still be freaked out by the film. he chuckled, skating a good pace ahead of her, “this is what you get for running, it’s all about the wheels, baby!”

“You’re really triggered by this.” She was almost curious enough to watch it. Charlie ran faster to try and catch up to him. “I definitely feel like that’s cheating! I dare you to beat me on foot!” She yelled.

–––––––––––THIS MIGHT HAVE been one of the worst places to meet her. to be honest, she hadn’t seen charli since they broke up, probably for the better the more she thinks about it. so to see her here, that too with anya drunk, never a good idea.       ‘ not a problem. just shocked. not tryna start something. ’      despite being drunk, anya tried to keep her cool. while not someone to particularly care about how her actions or words impacted others, she wasn’t sure sure she was in the mood to start something.

Charli was glad she was near the drink table. She noticed the other girl’s drink was empty as well. “Another drink?” She offered, not waiting for the answer before turning and taking the couple of steps to the table. She grabbed two drinks from the cooler before holding one out to Anya.

“ yeah, it was pretty awesome, ” adam spoke and grinned, nodding his head as he looked at the raven-haired female who agreed, taking the box from his hands. it didn’t take too long for him to get hold of the box he wanted to carry upstairs and adam closed the door, before he nodded towards the steps and the front of the apartment complex. “ so, how long have you been here for? ” he asked as he climbed the staircase.  

“I’m almost jealous. What was your favourite place that you saw?” She inquired. While she had travelled to quite a few other countries, she hadn’t seen too much of her own county. Charli started up the stairs just slightly ahead of the other. “About two years.”

Violet was sure that if it wasn’t her first and potentially only tattoo that she would have gotten it by now and she wouldn’t be thinking so much, even obsessing about it. Perhaps that was the problem, she was thinking to much. “I’m not sure. I like the idea of a seeding dandelion.” She had a picture in her mind, but she wasn’t sure if she could actually describe it the way it needed to be. Flipping through the book a bit more, she grinned at the woman before closing the book and pushing it back to where it had been placed before. “That’s interesting. I’m surprised some people are able to keep their hands that steady.” 

Charli nodded, listening to the girl’s idea. “Yeah, those are nice.” She always had to hold back her genuine thoughts when something like a dandelion was mentioned. They were very overdone. Sometimes there was a good background story for it but most people just got them because they were pretty. “Yeah, tattooing is definitely not for everyone.”

––––––––––CHARLI HAD BEEN her first relationship when she moved here. wasn’t expecting much out of it, and had found a way to ruin that fairly quickly. it was unfortunate that that’s the route that she took. one that she often regrets, but also knew would inevitably happen. at least knowing her.        ‘ that’s not what i meant. ’         it leaves anya to roll her eyes, taking a too long sip of her drink, trying to reel it in. no point in making a scene at a party that wasn’t hers.        ‘ i just can’t remember the last time i saw you at a party. figured you didn’t go to these anyway. ’        her glass was already empty. how sad.

The girl was just as beautiful as ever, just the sight of her brought up emotions she did her best to push back down. The two hadn’t been together very long but it was long enough that she couldn’t just let it go. Things went sour between them as soon as she found out what the girl had done. “Well, I decided to come to this one. Is that a problem?” she questioned before following Anya’s lead and downing the rest of her drink. She knew she needed to be drunk in order to get through the party with her ex there.

––––––––––––SHOULD SHE HAVE expected anything else when showing up to a party drunk ? especially a party at the apartment complex that the two lived at ? probably not, and yet she did. anya is a good four drinks drinks in and is in a state where she’s chilling. not too drunk, the right amount of tipsy. she’s happy. but when her eyes meet hers, her mood suddenly sours. but in a way that she doesn’t deserve to. after all, she’s the one that cheated, she’s the one made things go sideways. she cheated, and kept the feelings she still had for the girl buried in her chest. and yet, anya has the audacity to go over to her like everything was fine.         ‘ didn’t expect to see you here. ’

Charli didn’t often go to parties in the building because she didn’t know a lot of people but she had been getting to know some more of the residents recently so she decided to stop in. After the way things ended, she tried to forget that Anya lived in the building but considering the fact they lived on the same floor and walked past each other fairly often, it was hard to forget. Besides the fact, Anya still had a piece of her heart, whether she liked it or not. Charli was already a couple of drinks in when she heard that voice, the one she would recognize anywhere. “Yeah, well, I do live here too.” She instinctually snapped back.

The moment the girl stepped onto the rough she lit the stick in between her fingers. Looking around she found a set of chairs that were calling her name, what she didn’t see was the person sitting in one close by, “My bad, didn’t see you. Invading your space eh?” she said jokingly. Sitting down she looked around before looking at the person, “Want some?” she asked putting her hand out. 

Charli was just laying on the rooftop, enjoying the sun when she heard someone come over and take a seat next to her. She chuckled at the girl’s comment. “You’re welcome to invade my space, especially if you’re sharing.” She chuckled, taking the cigarette from the girl and taking a drag off of it before handing it back.

    &. celeste nods enthusiastically at charli’s approval. “ alright, we can do it black, i trust your judgement. ” listening attentively to the other’s explanation, she drifts slightly to consider her own pain tolerance. “ this is largest piece i’ve ever gotten, that’s for sure, so i can’t really compare it to anything else, but i think i can handle it. — i’ve broken a few bones, maybe that’ll finally come in handy … ? ”

“Sounds good.” She nodded. “It certainly won’t be as bad as breaking a bone so I’d say you’re good there.” She chuckled. “Did you want to go ahead and book an appointment?” she asked, getting the schedule pulled up. 

“ thank you sweetheart, ” adam said and chuckled softly, looking at the raven-haired female who stood in front of him. shaking her hand firmly, he then dropped his hand to rest next to his waist and as she asked what apartment he was in. “ 4e, ” he said as he went to open the door, pushing it aside so they could start unloading stuff from the vehicle. “ i left home and stayed in my car for a little while, while driving across the country, which is why i have a bed-looking thing in the back, ” adam spoke and grinned as he grabbed one of the not so heavy boxes. “ mind carrying this? ” he questioned the female.

She smiled back at the boy, nodding when he gave her his apartment number. “Oh, gotcha. That makes sense. I bet that drive was amazing. I love travelling but especially road tripping.” She added. “Got it.” She agreed, taking the box from the boy to carry it in.

“i’d almost recommend you watch it yourself to see, but i wouldn’t put that on anyone else really.” maren still felt a bit hesitant on approaching his dad, he hadn’t forgiven him yet and he still didn’t feel like he could trust him with his life. feeling like his dad’s motivation to connect was probably filled by something selfish, though he didn’t know, as he refused to talk and really acknowledge him. “yeah, okay, i’ll give christopher a run for it. make him work for whatever the fuck he wants from me. —speaking of runs, race ya?” he joked, pushing off on his board again, away of his wheels advantage. “loser pays for lunch!”

“Oh no, even as an adult?” She couldn’t help but let out a light laugh. Charli understood the boy’s hesitation, she just didn’t want him to let the chance go without thinking it through. “That sounds g- Hey! No fair!” She yelled, rolling her eyes. Charli took off in a run to try and catch up with the boy.

“to be fair, the movie didn’t get violent until a very long time in, and it was really colorful, how would i know it’d turn creepy as shit?” unable to forget the colorful backgrounds and the faces of the clowns in the film. “yeah, i guess so. i just don’t want to let him off the hook yet, not for what he did to us. and i don’t want to give him the impression that every things okay now, because it’s not.”

“Oh god, I can’t imagine. It definitely sounds traumatizing.” She couldn’t imagine watching a scary clown movie as a kid. She might have a different opinion on them. “I’m not saying to let him off the hook. Give him hell! But just talk to him, tell him where your head’s at.”

her expression lit up at the sympathetic words, already feeling better about her staggering inability to take a good picture today. “right?! it’s like the person i see in the mirror and the person on these pictures are entirely different people!” honestly, just how could her own phone betray her like that. “you definitely should turn it down, unless you really enjoy taking pictures all day and not getting paid for it.” she laughs, while also getting into a bit of a pose, so that the light would be perfect for people to appreciate the look she created.

“Exactly! Also lighting is the worst. It always makes me look washed out unless I magically find the perfect lighting!” She definitely knew the struggle of getting good selfies, especially on a phone. “No way, I’m in. You owe me though.” she teased. “Here, give me the phone.” she held her hand out for the girl’s phone before she posed.

“my mom didn’t know it was a horror film, and assumed based of the title it was ‘kid’ friendly, she was very, very wrong.” he slowed down on his board, rolling to a stop. “charli, i’m sorry. i know my situations no where near yours, and maybe, i’ve been insensitive. it’s just, my dad, he left, he made a choice and after everything, i don’t want to learn more from him. i’m already enough like him as it is.”

“Oh no. Why did you keep watching?” she laughed. Charli had been jogging to keep up with the boy and slowed to a stop along with him. “I know, it’s alright. Everyone’s situation is different and you have to do what’s right for you. But let me just say, you could never be like that, regardless as to if you spent more time with him or not. I don’t think you need to be afraid of adapting any of the bad parts of him.”
