wolfwandering:
Heâd kept his back turned to the talking woman, having figured the question wasnât directed at him. Itâd been months since heâd last seen or spoken to Charlie, and given the fact that theyâd only interacted once or twice in person, it took him a minute or two to recognize her voice. It wasnât until she called to him by name that he turned to face her - and felt dread replace the momentary surprise when she referenced the night he was still trying to forget.Â
âUh-⌠Hi, yea. Yea, I tracked it down, thanks. Sorry for⌠Yâknow.â He trailed off vaguely, hoping sheâd realize he was apologizing for not having informed her at the time - and for her text messages that heâd selectively ignored thereafter. Because what the hell was he supposed to say?âŚÂ âYeah thanks I found the kid with his throat slit in a cemetery?â⌠It was better this way; better that she didnât know - even if she didnât realize it.
âDo ya need help with yer lights or somethinâ?â The werewolf asked abruptly, hoping to direct the conversation as far away from that night as possible. âI can help.â
While it was true that the first time sheâd met Quentin hadnât exactly been under favourable circumstances. But it was exactly because heâd been there to help her while sheâd been close to falling right out of a tree that the hacktivist felt that she owed him big time.Â
âYeah?â She asked, her curiosity not wavering - something it seldom did at its peak. âWho was the guy you were tracking down...if you donât mind me asking?â She pondered aloud, lifting one shoulder as if that would somehow render the question more casual and less intrusive.
From what she remembers from his texts, Quentin had needed her help tracking down the GPS coordinates of a Cellphone he was tracking. Given that it had seemed like a bit of an emergency at the time she hadnât pressed for details. But she was definitely keen to know more about the situation now.Â
It wasnât until he reminded her, that she remembered what sheâd been doing there in the first place. âUgh! yeah...The tail lights of my car decided to give up on me. Iâm trying to figure out which ones I need to replace them.â ... and how to do the actual replacing part too, she internalized. But baby steps.Â
