ive created a very detailed and complex backstory for mav that isnt NOT supported by canon

i seem to be the only person in the top gun fandom that cares more about mav's relationship with his mother than his father. like yes the aftershocks of his dad's death and his dad's reputation basically cursed his entire life. but when you get down to it he really didn't know his dad at all and i think there was probably sometimes comfort in the glamour of a battlefield death and building his dad up in his mind as a hero. but with his mother she clearly slipped into a depression after his dads death and he was put into a position of trying to tend to her emotions as best a child can. and then she commits suicide (not explicitly stated but its clearly the implication) and he gets sent into foster care. and i do think mav holds some complicated anger towards her that he feels guilty about having in the first place. because she did leave him all alone
