reading about random things. educating yourself on cultures that died ages ago. excitement in learning new languages. having a cup of hot coffee/tea on a rainy sunday morning. staying up late to finish reading that one book. quoting shakespeare for no specific reason. listening to slow music while doing school work. singing your favorite song off key when no one is watching. smiling at animals. wearing clothes that makes you feel comfortable. laying on bed after a long tiring day. late night drives on empty roads. complimenting strangers. helping an elderly person to cross the road. hugging your best friend. smell of earth after rain. making others laugh. holding hands.
Can you explain the difference between city and country? Like “J’habite à la paris” And “J’habite en la France” ? Merci🇫🇷🌹
Salut!!! So it’s really simple:
1- For a city, you have to put “à” before the name of the city.
Example: J’habite à Paris, je travaille à Bordeaux, j’étudie à Nantes
2- For a country, you usually put “en” before the name of the country.
Example: J’habite en France, je travaille en Pologne, j’étudie en Suisse
PS: if the name of the country is plural, for example “Etats Unis” or “Pays Bas”, then you use “aux” before the name of the country.
Example: j’habite aux États Unis
Sneak Peek of of my WIP:
The sun shines on her face as a breeze dances through her hair, the taste of summer on her lips that are the color of rose petals. She hates every minute of it. She doesn’t want the smiling sun or the singing trees, she would much rather prefer the taste of bitter coffee beans and the smell of heavily dusted books that haven’t been touched for ages, yet they still are content on their owner’s shelves.
I abuse something very dear to me, I fold them, stab them with ink, and leave morning coffee rings stuck to them. Hi my name is feather-to-quill and I am addicted to abusing the books I love most.

so I learned how to knit today
“I’ve noticed that men melt so very easily. Little snowflakes, they are.”
- The House in the Cerulean Sea
A Sneak Peek of my WIP
It’s a calm Monday morning if you don’t look outside the window to see the howling weather. I think the sun forgot to rise with me this morning since the moon greets me as I throw my apron on and turn on the machines. Or maybe even the sun thought it was too early to wake up, at least that’s what my body thinks.
Jane Austen was really out there 200 years ago writing lines like “If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more” that to this day are still so swoon-worthy.
Sometimes I wish for a book/fanfiction/movie/series that is bilingual for no reason. Like no, not “one person is French and the other English”; just from time to time, it randomly switches from French to English.
The first two lines of the book are French, the next sixty are English. Chapter 6 is fully in French slang. The characters of the movie are speaking English; then without anyone mentioning it, they start speaking French. They often use one word of the other language in the middle of a sentence, just because.
I mean, I crave something like that.
(maybe it’s because I want to see if I can follow such a thing - then I’ll get to watch the horror and confusion in the eyes of my monolingual friends; but also, I feel like it simply would be fair that the entertainment I watch represents my own experience, which is constantly switching between both languages because my brain is an asshole and I don’t notice anymore if I’m doing things in French or in English and what the fuck this would have been expressed way more accurately in that language rather than this one–)

language mastery, or: knowing which mistakes to make to sound natural
My biggest university advice is getting a hobby where you can see your progress. I know for me one of the worst things about university is that i keep handing in eassays that get absolutely no feedback and it feels like I'm not actually progressing in my field, because the change is so gradual and takes such a long time.
Things like knitting and playing the piano have been absolute lifesavers, because I can actually see the change. With knitting it's extremely obvious because you are constantly making the garment bigger. With piano, when i'm learning a new song and playing it every day, things that took me an hour the previous day are super easy the next, which is one of the most satisfying things to notice
some things i’ve learned while studying in quarantine
drink more water instead of more coffee.
weekly goals are bullshit. set yourself 3-day goals. you’ll be less laid-back.
don’t just mindlessly stare at words. before you start studying, know your approach to it. have a plan.
summarizing the concept in your own words is the key part of taking notes. don’t just copy things down, convert them into your own way of talking, your own vocabulary, no matter how dumb and unprofessional it sounds.
don’t let the “studyblr aesthetic” fool you. studying doesn’t have to be pretty. summaries and notes can be messy as long as they’re comprehensible. you can always rewrite and reorganize them later. (honestly, you better do. and you better keep them.)
don’t throw away the papers you’ve solved your problems in. staple them to the fucking textbook. you need to see them constantly. cause you’ll need reminders of how far you’ve came, when you’re feeling discouraged.
don’t be an armchair analyst for your issues. if you have an idea then act on it.
remember: the exact point where it becomes difficult, is where your growth begins. take a deep breath, and try to focus on the paragraph in front of you.
get off your high horse and understand that if you’re a zero, you won’t go to 100 in a couple of days. first, you’ll need to reach 30, then from 30 to 60, and then from 60 to 90. nobody is 100 everyday. that happens very rarely.
you need to have fun everyday. you need to have peaceful time every single day. even on exam night. especially on exam night, actually. so make sure you’ve studied enough so you can have some time to yourself.
once you’re on a roll and in need of some challenge to stay on track, start writing down your studying hours. tell yourself you’re not allowed to do less than 80% of what you did yesterday. whatever the hell it was, even just one hour. so if yesterday you really studied for like, say 8 hours, today your goal is to study for at least 6 and a half hours. if you can’t keep up with that, make it 70%, or 60%.
be forgiving of yourself. be kind to yourself. even if you bounced back and lost your streak. start again. as slowly as you did before. take your time. it’s okay, you were there once you can get there again.
19th century books will kill off a main character in one sentence and then spend 3 pages describing a street
Normalise liking poetry because you like the way it sounds and art because you think its beautiful. You don’t have to understand the deeper meaning of something to appreciate it - poetry is bloody difficult to analyse and art requires an extensive knowledge of movements and artists to properly get - so please just wonder around art galleries and decide which pieces you’d buy if you could, and read out lines of poetry simply because they have a nice ring to them.

You know you chose the right target language when you keep falling in love with it again and again and again
It smells and sounds like spring
Not to romanticize on main but there is really something healing about sitting in front of an open window listening to birds and wind chimes and enjoying a natural breeze. It’s like the world is telling you breath
