The smirk that passes Shadow’s face is haughty, twisting up the left side of his muzzle, brows raised with quiet amusement, arrogance all but burned into his expression. The smirk lingers as Sonic walks over, clearly unaffected by the blue blur’s snark, arms remaining crossed in front of his chest.   “I thought I would test your reflexes,”   he shoots the retort right back without a moment’s pause,   “You’re getting slow, hedgehog. The you I fought on the ARK would have never let a hacky-sack best you.”

The two of them might have a … complicated relationship, but Shadow enjoys nothing more than taunting Sonic – he lives off of the thrill of putting his ego to the test against someone who can actually match his speed. It riddles his spine with chaos-infused adrenaline.   “How disappointing.”   He’s still sneering.

     SHADOW’S FACE TWISTS & SONIC’S MATCHES, both now looking into warped mirrors of fiery ego. this is always the case for them, isn’t it ? reflecting / inverting ; the same & yet . . . not. one takes a step & the other steps further, back & forth until they’re both at breakneck speeds, yet never quite surpassing —— matching. the simple, loathsome truth of the matter is that shadow will never be better than sonic, just as sonic will never be better than shadow, but, oh, how they’ll both try anyway. neither would have it any other way.

He’s a little bored and thus killing time by playing hacky-sack, bouncing the object around on his shoes idly when he spots a familiar blue blur walking his way. When the hedgehog gets a little closer and with a little gusto in Shadow’s next kick, the hacky-sack goes soaring through the air with intent to hit Sonic square in the face.

“Whoops.”

     ❝ YEOWCH — !! ❞  65 grams of pellet-packed cloth right in the eyeball !  so much for a soothing, stress-free walk in the park !  the shock & weight of it all threatens to knock him on his ass, & he teeters embarrassingly. he looks ‘round for any sign of the one behind this assault. upon spotting shadow, sonic frowns, picks the sack up from the ground, & begins tossing it between his gloved hands, emerald gaze never leaving the other.

why must you always speak in riddles hedgehog

and your metaphorical hat sucks ass
