it took barely over 300 notes before someone decided to derail a post specifically about violence against women. 

Well that’s probably because violence can happen to any one of any identity of any age and it took 300 notes for someone to bring it up.

except no one is saying that it can’t and doesn’t happen.  what’s being addressed her is the specific act of violence against women, which happens with alarming frequency.  we’re not discussing violence as a whole right now.  we’re discussing violence against women— which, if you’re unfamiliar, here are some statistics about violence against women perpetuated by their spouses and boyfriends.  you’ll notice that it says approximately 85% of the victims of domestic violence are women and that the FBI reports that 32% of female homicide victims are killed by their intimate partners.  domestic violence overwhelmingly happens to women because of misogyny because of patriarchy.  the discussion, right now, is about domestic violence and sex-related crimes against women.
