CHAELA hadn’t been able to do anything but go to work, auditions, and home the last couple of days and one of her close friends was getting sick of it. They felt like she had constantly flaked on her and the plans that they had, she didn’t think about the fact that she was trying to make a living all on her own while she had everything paid for. Was she jealous that her friend was still in good graces with her parents while she struggled? Of course. Was she going to let it come between their friendship? Not at all. 

“I’m on the way, even though yo’ ass could come get me.” She grumbled into the phone that was tucked in between her shoulder and ear as she whipped her car backwards out of her driveway. Not only did her car not have AC during a summer in California, she had leather seats. She knew that her friend JADAH had a brand new car and obviously AC so she could’ve scooped instead of her. JADAH chuckled before brushing off CHAELA’s attitude. “Girl, you know I hate drivin’.” she replied, causing CHAELA to roll her eyes and mouth “I sure do,” to herself. “I’ll be 15 minutes.” the woman returned before she hung up the phone. 

There was a list of things that pissed CHAELA off but the top three were being hot, hungry, and being the only one who was putting in effort into things. Her and JADAH were friend since they were in diapers, they knew each other’s secrets, especially CHAELA’s darkest secrets. Her childhood best friend was the only person she felt comfortable enough with to disclose her sexuality and her new career path. Since JADAH was already out in California doing her own thing, she had the main person she needed up here.

Once she came out of the dressing room, CHAELA slid the hanger onto the dress sleeve. “It was cute, but I can get somethin’ better for a whole lot cheaper.” The blonde informed before giving her best friend her undivided attention. “I can’t believe you buyin’ that expensive ass outfit and jewelry, J.” CHAELA scrunched up her face before shaking her head. 

“You know I gotta look good at all times.” Her friend said with a chuckle before she placed her finger against her chin. “Can you see if I left my headphones in the dressin’ room right quick?” She asked CHAELA. With a quick nod, CHAELA turned around and went back into the dressing room to see if a set of apple headphones were on the seat.

JADAH leaned over to the side in her seat and stuck her neck out slightly as she picked up CHAELA’s purse. Taking her outfit off the hanger, she folded the clothes and slipped it into CHAELA’s bag. She made sure that the clothes were folded good enough that it wouldn’t be noticeable by anyone and she zipped the bag up before her friend came back out. 

“Uh, I ain’t see it, J.” She pointed out before placing her hands on her hips. JADAH looked around her seat before patting her pockets, scoffing while she pulled the headphones out her pocket. “I’m stupid, let’s go, girl. I ain’t gettin’ that fit.” She replied before she got up and handed her the bag. 

For a second, CHAELA opened her mouth to say something but her stomach growled, informing her that she could save whatever she had to say for later. “Aight, let’s go because I’m hungry.” She stated as she locked arms with her friend and made her way out of the women’s section of the door to the exit. As soon as the woman made her way past the metal detectors, the alarms went off, causing her to scrunch up her face in confusion. “The fuck..”

“Excuse me, ma’am. I’m gonna have to search both of you.” The security officers spoke to the girls before the separated the two of them for the search. The officers took the security wand and went over the both of them then stopped once the officer that was going over CHAELA and her belongings brought the beeping wand down to her purse. The sound of the wand going crazy caused CHAELA to huff in disbelief. “You can check my purse, ain’t nothin’ in there.” She insisted as she took the purse off her shoulder and gave it to him. She sat there with her arms folded over her chest as she awaited the officer to give her her purse back and let her go. 

The officer cocked his eyebrow as he opened the purse and shifted through her stuff only to find a folded outfit with a bracelet and necklace inside of it, pulling it out to show her. The other officer shifted his interest from JADAH to CHAELA. “T-That’s not mine.” CHAELA defended herself before she pointed her finger at JADAH. “That was her’s, it must’ve fell in my bag or something. Right, J.” 

JADAH sat there in silence before looking down at her feet, shaking her head. CHAELA’s jaw dropped then she let out a chuckle. Everything that had happened before this began to make sense. JADAH was using her and she had no use for her now.
