v. history
to this day wyl has no idea who his parents were, some dornishmen he's sure, but who it was he doesn't know. nor does he truly care anymore. since he was 5 years old his father has been lord uller. there are whispers that he's some uller cousin but by now he's just sure they say that because some call him mad.
he's always been curious, brash and never wanted to sit still. he would go out of his way to get attention and to him that's just fine. trouble was just something that followed behind him, welcomed to join him whenever it wanted.
a young wyl joins in the war, the thrill of it all thrumming through him. power and bloodlust. he loves it all. and he loves fighting for dorne. there are few who can fight in the sand and the people of hellholt are the experts. the deserts are their playgrounds. their fights are dirty and they don't mind it. it's his family that takes down a dragon, no one else has done it but them. that's their pride.
dornish independence is important to him, to all of them. or so he thought. the fighting ends, the war is over and house martell makes peace with house targaryen the the other kingdoms. he argues it, most of dorne does, but their mind is made up.
anger takes wyl away from sunspear and deeper into hellholt until even that becomes too close to the surrender they gave. he leaves, he finds battles and problems to fight along the way. he turns every emotion into rage and wants to make everything feel it.
it's in a skirmish that he meets gwin harlaw. he's instantly taken with her, not for her beauty or her name but how beautifully she kills. how her eyes shine when she does it. it starts as physical, they fight together and then they lay together. eventually that's not enough. wyl knows this woman is everything. nothing has taken him the way she does. he wants her, he needs her.
wyl finds the news that there will be marriages between the martell's and the targaryen's. they'll have their home invaded by the targaryen's. he hates the idea, he wants to end it. dorne doesn't need them, they don't need another invasion.

v. history
lord omid and lady myra were married for love, a traveler to essos finding her enchanting and quickly marrying her. their marriage was one of true love, a binding that was also one that wanted more power. both wanted the favor of house lannister and more than that princess visenya. playing loyal to house lannister while trying to wiggle their way into the power princess visenya had, they failed to do either.
their demotion to their knightly roots was one that stung the family. their goal turning from gaining power, to reclaiming power. still they remained a happy couple until the birth of sybell. bleeding taking her quickly. lord omid withdrew from his family and the maids took after the children.
the reluctance from lord omid to leave his home, hardly meant anything when he took comfort in lady jocasta. these two, just as with myra, were married quickly. the lord spending most of his time alone with his new wife.
while with the maids sybell found herself most interested in books and learning. their happiness laying more in studies in the sciences and their mothers home in pentos. lord omid saw this as an opportunity. with his children he could rebuild house swyft through connections. westeros, essos, knighthood, the citadel. all of it chances to regain their power.
sybell was sent to pentos with her mother's family to grow there. the hope for her either marrying a prince or a magister. and if that didn't work, they could come back and charm someone from a powerful house in westeros. the queen had done it, sybell could in their eyes do the same with the right training.
immersing herself in pentoshi culture she came back at the age of 23, after the marriage prospects were ruined by their distaste for the men's wishes for complete obedience. there was no use for sybell to be educated or interested in anything aside from children and living as a trophy wife. boredom would have consumed her.
as much as sybell missed the freedom that came to her from pentos and other cities in essos, she was happy to be with her family. there were comforts in cornfield that she'd not realized she missed.
it was when sybell learned of their brothers admission to the citadel that her excitement grew. as often as she could she visited oldtown in the reach. unable to enter but people more than willing to speak to her outside. her brother happy to have their visits together.
it was on those visits she met lord triston hightower. sullen at times but a man interested in her intelligence, both happy to listen to each other's interest and built a bond that she'd not expected. on her returns home the pair would write to each other enough that sybell grew to consider him her closest friend.
ignoring her father's insistence for her to push further into the friendship, she enjoyed what they had. until naturally, her father's wishes naturally happened on their own. sybell and triston falling in love and marrying after that.
her family has little standing and she knows this displeases the dowager lady and some of the others in house hightower. a wedding they'd decided on, on their own. a ruling lord didn't truly need permissions.
her father was ecstatic by the development, whispering in their ear about how to work for even more power. both he and her step mother insisting she should be pregnant herself now and how this was truly their chance. to them their daughter is simply a tool that has become useful. their shining star. their golden ticket.
now sybell is in a new role, ruling lady of house hightower trying to win over the people, unliked by her mother in law, doing her best to ignore her own parents whispers in her ear and hoping to learn to be a good mother to her husband's son.

House Uller of Hellholt is one of the great noble houses in Dorne. Their keep, the Hellholt, is in the middle of the Dornish desert; it is named after an event in which rivals were locked within the Great Hall and burned to death. Ullers are reputed to be impulsive and unpredictable: a common saying is “Half of the Ullers are half-mad, and the other half are worse.” Their arms are rayonne yellow over crimson..
The Hightower or High Tower is the seat of House Hightower one of the most powerful families of the Reach. The castle and lighthouse is located in the port of Oldtown atop Battle Isles where the Honeywine widens into Whispering Sound.
House Swyft of Cornfield is a knightly house from Cornfield in the westerlands. They are among the principal houses sworn to House Lannister of Casterly Rock. Their arms depict a blue bantam rooster on yellow and their words are ‘Awake awake!’
Whilst only a knightly house now during Targaryen civil war The Dance of the Dragons house Swyft was apparently a full-fledged noble house. and Lord Swyft fought for the Greens and died in the Battle by the Lakeshore.
Ser Harys Swyft is the knight of Cornfield and the current head of House Swyft. When Tytos Lannister was Lord of Casterly Rock, Ser Harys borrowed large sums of money from House Lannister. And upon Ser Tywin Lannister’s return from the War of the Ninepenny Kings, the young heir of Casterly Rock was determined to return his House’s status and began by demanding the repayment of the gold his father lent out. Those who could not repay immediately had to send a hostage to Casterly Rock until their debt was settled. Ser Harys hastened to obey however was unable to pay immediately at the time, surrendered his daughter Dorna Swyft into the custody of Ser Kevan Lannister until the debt was settled. Ser Kevan eventually married Dorna Swyft, and they had three childern together, Lancel, Martyn and Janei. Ser Harys is Cersei’s treasurer on Tomen’s council and Jocelyn Swyft also serves as Cersei’s handmaiden

when aglantine rosby announced her pregnancy after her brothers wedding, she refused to name the father. but all who were there know the only man who's attention she had that night was that of aerion targaryen. when her son was born the elder lord rosby refused to let the boy take his name and house. instead aglantine gave her son the name of her mother's house. orys baratheon.
it was well known that the members of house rosby were usually born sickly. while orys grew strong, his mother grew weaker. four years was all he had with her before illness took her. the day she died, his grandfather arranged for him to be sent away. no one was surprised or said a word when he was accepted on dragonstone without question.
orys grew up with the members of house targaryen, accepted but it was made clear that he wasn't completely their equal. still he was happy, high valyrian came easy to him, he learned to fight and how to lead. while his best friend, and half-siblings, were with their dragons orys was taken to battlefields. some would say far too young to be there but orys towered over others and was stronger than most of the grown men.
he was happy training and on the battlefield. it was where he shined, it was where he finally stood out. where he wasn't the 'bastard' nor was he "aegon's friend" he was a warrior. it was where he made his own name. where people learned to know and fear orys baratheon. the dragons were feared in the sky and orys was feared on the ground.
when the hand of argella durrandon was offered to aegon, the man refused. both aegon and orys respected the old storm king so orys was fine when he was offered as her husband. the offer was refused, his messengers hands were cut off and orys was insulted, orys anger paled in comparison to his brothers. it was then that aegon decided there should be one king and orys was proud to stand by aegon.
orys was proud to be the first to march for the true king, with houses of the riverlands and crownlands defeated by his leading the battles he claimed the first victory for aegon and house targaryen. he was named hand of the king and at that it was time to right the first insult.
the fight was bloody but quick. argilac durrandon was an old man now and despite this, he was a proud man. orys was honored to fight the man who stood for his people. he killed argilac in single combat and the path to storms end was clear once the durrandon banners fled. with rhaenys and meraxes at his side they took their host to storms end and where he expected to meet resistance, instead he was met with the bound and naked argella durrandon. the woman he would cover, protect and name his wife. keeping the banners and sigil of she and her father as the words for the new House Baratheon of Storm's End.
vi. now
war with dorne was something he'd wanted, yet another chance to prove his strength, a chance to keep fighting for his best friend and his brother. he'd been unaware of the trap he'd walked into. unaware of the deaths he'd sentenced his men to. when he was taken prisoner, for three years he and his man suffered at the hands of the dornish until aegon answered their demands. they were to be freed, but House Wyl had their own plans, orys and his men had their sword hands cut off.
orys was enraged, aegon was enraged and let balerion burn all he could of house wyl. orys was satisfied with the response, he was ready to thank aegon. even when argella raged at davos being sent to aegonfort orys accepted it. davos would be with his family, even if they weren't named blood, the realm knew.
the resentment and anger sat in him as he reigned as hand of the king. still he stood by aegon's side, darkened heart but still a solid ally and force. until rhaenys dies. with her death orys expects action, he expects anger. he's proud when aegon and visenya burn dorne. but the last thing he expects after this, was meetings.
when his oldest friend, confidant and brother accepts the peace and unity with dorne. orys resigned as hand of the king, going back to storms end.
when the betrothals at dragonstone were announced, orys was one of the first to object. marrying into dorne was an insult to both he and rhaenys. furious he almost left himself until the announcement of the death of the hightower boy. orys knew dragons, he'd grown next to dragons, he'd thought to try to claim one himself but aerion always refused to let him try. anyone foolish enough to try to claim a dragon without the blood would meet the expected end.
orys wants to stay in storms end, he wants to see dorne burn, he wants to see justice be done. he wants his fucking hand back. the last thing he wants is to attend his nieces wedding to a dornishman.
