Zeliha was born into a pretty prestigious family in Turkey, both of her parents quite infamous in each of their chosen career paths. Their mother was a talk show personality and her father a local politician, eventually coming to be mayor of their town for years. To say they both liked attention would be an understatement.
With all of that attention meant they held their children to high standards, and most of them met them. Except for Zeliha. As the middle child, they mostly went under the radar, but their mother seemed to have it out for them. No matter what they did, their mother’s criticisms of everything from the way they looked, the way they dressed, their chosen interests. Sometimes it felt as even just presence could set their mother off into a tangent. It didn’t help that they were put into constant comparison with their other siblings, a never-ending question of why they couldn’t be more like them for whichever quality they chose to praise of them at the time. When they were younger, Zeliha would go out of their way to conform to their mother’s wishes but once they realized it did nothing to change their mother’s disapproval, they eventually gave up.
Once Zeliha decided to be the person they actually were, despite how much it pained their mother, they slowly learned how to be much a happier person. The snide comments and turning of her nose up by their mother slowly started to fade to the back, after years of making them hide herself away in their room with tears. Even if his job required him to be the man in charge, at home, their father was more of a bystander to everything that happened within the home, never having the same spirit-crushing remarks that their mother did but neither ever stopping their mother from making them, either.
Zeliha spent majority of their time looking into things of the spooky variety, endlessly obsessed with true crime and more unnatural crime, like ghosts and cryptids and conspiracies. If just their existence bothered her mother, these interests enraged her, calling them an embarrassment of the family.
It all came to an explosion one day when Zeliha preferred to center on their own passions and brought it up in conversation with a family friend, to be overheard by their mother, leading to their mother to ask (tell) them to get out. The threat probably wasn’t as serious as Zeliha took it, packing a couple bags and leaving the house once night fell. As scary as it was, it was freeing to finally drop the pounds they had been carrying on their shoulders. They used the money they could withdrawal before their card would be turned off to buy a ticket to the farthest place she could get to.
There were a few days of sleeping in libraries and all night fast food chains, but she eventually found themself on the steps of a home of brothel in the Nevada desert, not exactly the type of work they were interested in falling into, but with little experience and connections, not much else left up to them.
Zeliha had spent quite a few years working there, coming to like the freedom of the job and close relationships that she created with some of the other people working there. Eventually, though, they earned enough loyal customers to leave the whorehouse as they followed her business to a more independent one. What had interested them most was the small pieces of information they picked up through connections with clients who were of importance in their professional lives, and the income left them to begin a side business of investigation into what had gotten them kicked out in the first place.
They ended up in Vegas when hired by a family who was after learning what happened to their twenty year old daughter in Sin City. Found drained of her blood, the police didn't have much to offer the family besides it being a horrible accident, despite the questionable circumstances under which her body was found. Knowing of the families in charge and the dirty ways they operate, Zeliha is attempting to see if they have anything to do with the death that seems more of a murder than an accident in their opinion.
Personality-wise, Zeliha is quite a confident person, as growing up with constant criticism made them learn to be unaffected by the words that others had to say. They believe themself to be right in almost all situations and won’t go down without an argument if anyone says anything differing. They hold their head high even if their loud nature usually draws looks and will share her opinion even if it is unsolicited. They're generally well-meaning, but sometimes it doesn’t come off as easily so.
