Certified Sweetheart

“You weren’t who I thought you’d be, that’s probably why it took so long for me to find you.

I had searched for hundreds of—well, you call them years, to find a hero worthy of my Light. I traveled to crypts of kings and knights of times far before the Golden Age. I searched too through the corpses of past Guardians, thinking that perhaps I would be the one to revive them and fight along them in a way that their first Ghost had failed to.Once I even hitched a ride to Mars with an unsuspecting Hunter, thinking to perhaps find you among the voyagers of the Golden Age. (I won’t tell you how long it took me to get off that rock.) 

By the time I made it back to Russia I had nearly given up.

Failed in my purpose, I went to the wilderness hoping to die, but instead I saw you. You—your bones, were as much a part of land as any other beautiful flower in the forest. The moment I saw you, I knew. All this time I had searched for a Guardian worthy of my Light, when all along it was me who needed to be worthy of you.

All at once I knew you, a mother, a daughter, a wife. (Though I will never tell you this, for I know how your heart would break.) You had been fearless, and brave in ways I could never have begun to imagine. You had been selfless, you had loved with passions I did not then understand. I was in awe. 

The first you amazed me, but when I met the second you I knew love.”
