When I was a kid I always thought it was really unrealistic that all characters from pieces of media end up marrying someone in their teenage friendship group at the end of whatever media thing, because in real life people don't actually marry the first person they ever dated, or someone they met as a teenager, because that would be ridiculous because you have experiences outside your teenage years right...?

I never considered that until I got older, it's so cool that your mum tells you about stuff like that! I know my mum had a boyfriend in high school but I don't know anything about him and now that I think about it, I don't know anything about who my dad dated before. I do know that my parents got together because my mum took a chance on my dad at uni even though he was 2 years younger and they didn't expect it to last very long lol They're still going strong a couple decades later

I dont know very much about my dad's dating life to be fair, but yeah my mum is really open with me about relationships and things because she wants me to be safe and have healthy relationships. Also because she can't resist sharing stories about her life so I've heard about three or four different boyfriends of hers in quite a bit of detail? Also I know my parents met through kayaking lol, they met at a civil service canoe club event (because my mum used to be in the civil service. Idk what my dad was doing there)

I think what they're saying is that it shouldn't be a privilege to own your own house and to not fear for your life when there are cops around. That that is a fairly baseline level and removal of these is elimination of human rights.
