You need to install either the Nexon Launcher (NL for rest of this post) or Steam first if you don’t have one. NL defaults to installing games to C:\Nexon\Library, but you can move this in options. Steam also has the option to move its library* or create multiple game libraries. You can change them now if you want.

*Moving your steam library is moving the entire steam installation and is outside the scope of this guide.

Find Vindictus install path. It’s changed a lot over the years so I can’t give exact directions on where to look. If you have any shortcuts to the launcher, right-click on them, choose properties and look at the path that they point to. What you want is a “Vindictus” folder with an “en-US” folder inside it. If it’s not immediately inside it, check the sub-folders. Note down where the en-US folder is.

This guide assumes you know how to sign in to Steam or NL.

For Steam, games are installed to <Steam install/library path>\steamapps\common\. Paste your Vindictus folder there, then install Vindictus through Steam. (If you have multiple libraries make sure to choose the right one). It should detect your Vindictus, spend a minute to a few min checking the folder and then download a smaller sized patch to finish it. (~300mb?) If it wants to download the whole client again (~5-10gb) pause the download and go to the Vindictus folder. Most likely it couldn’t find the en-US folder because its version is in a different spot. Find the new en-US location and move the old en-US folder over it and overwrite. Right-click Vindictus in Steam Library and in “Properties>Local Files” choose “Verify Integrity of Game cache”.

For NL, choose Vindictus from the Games screen so it appears in the Library screen. Don’t download it. Paste your Vindictus folder into the NL library folder. It’ll look like “C:\Nexon\Library\Vindictus” if it’s the default location. Now choose Download in the NL Library screen and see what happens. If it checks the files quickly and downloads a smallish patch, it detected your install. If it wants to download 10gb, press cancel to stop it. Again, most likely the en-US folder is in the wrong place. In my case I had to move it from Vindictus\en-US to Vindictus\appdata\en-US. After moving the en-US folder to the right place, select the cog icon (settings button) on Vindictus in the NL library screen and select repair installation. It should detect and small patch your installation.

Notes:There is a bug that affects some people where the Steam client doesn’t start through the Steam launcher and had to be started through direct launch. Unfortunately I can’t help with that and it’s been around for years so no hope from Nexon either. However, the Steam client is nearly identical to the NL one so you can switch the folder into NL without re-downloading.

Bonus: The idiot-proof method is to copy the folders, but you can create symlinks or directory junctions to “place” the folders where you want them without any copying. Eg. If you already have NL installed with 2 games on C:\ drive, but you have Vindictus installed on another drive and have no room to move it to C:\, you can put a directory junction (WinXP) or symlink (Vista/Win7/8) in the NL library folder that points to wherever Vindictus is installed on the other drive. It’ll get updated and run as if it was in that location.In my case, I have the Steam client installed for automatic updates, however I can’t run it through Steam because of the bug I mentioned above. There’s a symlink in my NL library folder that points to the Steam copy that lets me run it from NL. Run mklink /? from Administrator cmd or PowerShell to see its options.

If you have any questions or are confused on any points, you should ask first before trying anything. Messing up might require a full re-download which defeats the purpose of this guide. If you have the space to spare (Vindictus folder requires 10gb+ free on the target drive), it’s better to copy + paste rather than cut+paste the folder. Messing up means you can just delete and copy again, and you can just delete the original after the new location is working properly.
