Graham Knuttel Bidding War
from the incomparable Suzy Byrne (@suzybie), three posts this evening on the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel's Knuttel-adorned, Taoisigh-themed function rooms:
The 11 taoisigh paintings were bought for 250k in a bidding war no less in 2007 by Louis Fitzgerald for his hotel see here for article from Irish Daily Mirror re sale. They are on display in the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel in Clondalkin. I hear that Louis has commissioned a Cowen subsequently to join them
According to the same Irish Daily Mirror piece, quoth Louis Fitzgerald on the Kunttel subjects:Â
"they were all great men"
Ah. Good times.

Bertie's Biggest Fan
@AbiePB @JoeLeogue think that should be filed away in the celtictigermuseum.com
— Sinéad (@noonansinead) March 22, 2012
Worth quoting Mr O'Connor:
Bertie looked the country in the eye and told us he had not cheated us and I think most people believed him. The details will be pored over again and again no doubt but in essence, since Wednesday, no one really believes Bertie Ahern was corrupt.
I think people looked at him on Wednesday, this rather odd, unknowable, lonely man, whose only vice seemed to be a lust to run the country, and they felt sorry for him and sorry for themselves a bit.
People could not but help thinking that it was a seedy, dirty, ignominious end, not only for this man who had devoted himself to doing so much for us, but for the whole Bertie era -- a time of such confidence and wealth and fun and progress in this country.

The World Today of BBC World Service this morning ran the Celtic Tiger Museum item in the 'water skiing squirrel' slot just at the end of this morning's programme just before 6am London time.
Presenter Roger Hearing added their own submission! We haven't had a song submitted for the Celtic Tiger Museum just yet, so they've made a suggestion from 'Browny and the Wotsits'. [Who?]
Frankly we're not sure if @PaddyCullivan's songs from the cataclysm might not be a better cut at this theme.:
What song would you add to the Celtic Tiger Museum?Â
Bonus points if you have some merch from a concert from the song, a poster or even (how retro is this) a CD?Â
Angela Phelan's neon pink book "So New York" on shopping in NYC, price tag says I paid €19.99 for this. Hmm.

Ireland's Most Expensive Drink, circa 2004
I think this was about 2004... the Sunday Business Post ran a competition to find the most expensive drink in Ireland and I won by sending in a receipt for two snipes of Moet for €20 each, purchased in The Bailey.
