Jeffrey Adelsberger emailed: "I’m part of the Celtic Music Club in Catonsville, Maryland. Each week we meet and learn session tunes. The first half is slow hour where some memorize tunes, while beginners learn the basics of playing jigs, reels, and horn pipes (among other types of Celtic music. We focus on popular tunes in Baltimore area sessions. Later the tempo picks up and individuals call out something they want to work or just play with others. Occasionally some one brings out a song they’ve been working on.

I started attending right after Covid, and it’s been an important part of my week since. I feel it connects to my cultural heritage and great fellowship with others. The moto of the club is “Ceol, Cultúr, Craic”, music culture and fun."

We will be listening to the podcast as we drive to Charlotte to fly to Ft Lauderdale to get on a Princess cruise.  Not that we want to cruise but it is the String Break!  Many small bands but the headliners this year are the Gothard Sisters, Scythian and Socks in the Frying Pan. Thanks to you, we know these bands and are looking forward to a week of sun and music, especially after the cold temps of the last 10 days.

Daniel Ide emailed from Fallbrook, CA: "Mo Chara Marc  -  I trust all is well with you on this gorgeous day in February.

Well, I have been having a wonderful time this past year or so reconnecting with my ancestral Irish and Celtic roots, in part, through the music I have been enjoying on your podcast;  Irish and Celtic Music Podcast.

In addition I have been practicing, and playing quite enjoyably, the Bodhran.  Only more recently I have joined up with the local Irish Cultural community in San Diego, California:  The House of Ireland and Comhaltas San Diego.  Between the two I am sufficiently busy with all kinds of opportunity to connect and share with others.  I am even taking Irish  -  Gaeltacht classes and learning the language of my Irish ancestors.

Last September 2024 I experienced my first trip to Ireland.  I specifically visited Westport, County Mayo as that is the most identifiable leaving off point for most of my Irish ancestors:  McCormack, Garvey, Cosgrove, Shanley, and so on.  My last name “Ide” is of a more ancient Celtic origin hailing from Suffolk, England and Northern Germania.  I will journey throughout those parts in future pilgrimages of reconnecting with my ancestral roots.

My trip to Ireland in September 2024 was centered around the land, the people and the music.  All of which I enjoyed in abundance, so much so that I am heading back for another visit in the beginning of June 2025.

In the meantime I have discovered that a Bodhran Summer School (https://www.craiceann.com/index.php) hosts a week long series of workshops on Inish Oir (Inisheer) in the Aran Islands every year in the beginning of July.  Like I said, more opportunity to celebrate Celtic culture through music than I know what to do with.

So, as you can see, I am in it “hands and feet” as they say, with a clear horizon for more than I can imagine.

I am super grateful to you and your Podcast.  I have a good time of regularly practicing my bodhran along with all the wonderful artists you present on your show.  You and your Podcast are a delightful part of my celebration of Celtic culture through music, and an essential ingredient in reconnecting with my Irish and Celtic ancestry.

I have horrible tinnitus (ringing in one ear) so I have to sleep with music playing. Early on, I would just set my iPod beside my pillow and play the music & my wife would turn it off when she was ready for bed.  Often, the next morning, my son would ask me about a particular song he’d heard (he called it Leprechaun music).

We became fans of so many  band. You, of course. Young Dubliners. Heather Dale. Serious Kitchen. Ceann. Syr. Wild Colonial Bhoys. Jesse Ferguson, Barley Juice, Gaelic Storm, the Elders, Enter the Haggis. The Prodigals. Bad Haggis. Ed Miller. I could go on and on and on.

When my son went to high school in TN, the PE teacher and soccer coach was from County Mayo. He and my son used to sing Back Home in Derry, Pair of Brown Eyes and Leaving of Liverpool together. They were the only two that knew what in the world they were singing!

Life happens, and I took a wee break from the podcast. 2 years later, I learned you were still going! I am so happy I’m back in the fold!

I actually started with Podcast #1; I listen while I work from home. I’m up to # 372 , date 8/23/18. I love hearing how your podcasting has changed over the years and I’m discovering new bands daily, and rediscovering some others.

Greetings my friends. Spring has sprung in Atlanta. Everything is covered in the yellowish glow of pollen. Fortunately, I’ve doubled up on allergy meds this year. It seems to have helped. I haven’t lost my voice once this season, knock on wood. Even after a 4 hour show at the Wings Cafe & Tap House on St Patrick’s Day. I call that a HUGE win.

In the meantime, I’ve got a little challenge for you. It’s simple, it’s soulful, and it’s rooted in the music we love. It’s called the Celtic Spring Challenge, and it’s happening all through the month of April.

Here’s how it works:

🎶 First—listen to Celtic music every day. Whether it’s a lively jig, a haunting ballad, or an old favorite that stirs your heart. This podcast is mostly about Celtic Folk songs. So let that music be your companion.

🚶‍♀️ Second—go for a 30-minute walk. Every day if you can. Get outside, breathe in that spring air, and let the rhythm of the music move your feet.

♻️ And third—pick up three pieces of trash while you’re out there. It’s a small gesture, but it’s a way of giving something back to the land that inspires so much of the music we celebrate here.

John Sharkey White, II emailed: “After all these years of listening to the podcast, I have to say that your version of "Peggy Gordon" is my favorite of your personal music. It's hauntingly beautiful. Your voice floats above the soft harp in the background. But that's just my opinion; I could be wrong. ;o)”

John also responded on a podcast chat where I wrote: "I thought it was funny this morning to hear an ad on the public edition of the podcast from Amazon Music because they no longer allow the podcast on the streaming service🤣🤣"

He responded: "I don’t use Amazon. Why won’t they allow the podcast?"

Here's my response: "I don’t specifically know because I haven’t actually looked it up. But if I was to guess, I can think of two reasons.

One reason is competition. Both of those platforms are music discovery platforms. The podcast is also about music discovery. So I’m sure that doesn’t help.

The second reason makes a lot more sense. That is monetization. I suspect that they are required to pay royalties for all music streamed on their services.

They have AI that recognizes copyrighted songs and if there are a whole bunch of them in a single podcast and they can’t easily monetize that

This explains why YouTube recently started allowing the podcast to be published again because they have an AI that recognizes tracks and they pay royalties for music played"

Pittsburgh is a small faire, but the musicians are still great. We could only spend one day there, so we didn't see them all. We did get to see The Reelin' Rogues, The Craic Show, Sarah the Harpist (Sarah Marie Mullen), and just as we were leaving at the end of the day, Magnus and Maggie.

Despite the musicians and us seeing each other one or two times a year, we still get to be friends. Big smiles. Daniel from the Craic Show wanting to clink glasses at the Pirates Pub. Sarah and my wife Gayle got into a conversation about environmental issues.”
