Black Market Masquerade

Hawke sends two of his most trusted companions into a slaver’s masquerade— an opulent den in Hightown where velvet hides cruelty, and every masked noble watches with a predator’s patience. Their task is simple in theory: retrieve a ledger that could topple a criminal network, and walk out undetected. To survive the night, one must play the master, and the other must kneel. It is a role neither should be able to stomach, a performance made harder by old wounds and unspoken desire. But the masquerade is precarious, and the deeper they slip into their parts, the more the line between act and truth begins to blur. Under candlelight and called bids, power masks intimacy, vulnerability becomes weaponised, and touch becomes a language of its own. The crowd sees a pair bound by ownership and obedience— but the truth that exists between them is far more nuanced: loyalty freely given, longing carefully buried, trust teetering on the edge of something neither dare name. When the ledger finally comes within reach, the hardest part isn’t the theft. It’s stepping back from the roles that let them ache for each other in plain sight— and deciding what, if anything, is left once the masks come off.

It's our birthday month! In June of last year, I opened up The Hanged Man to the Dragon Age community hoping to create a space for writers, artists, and other creatives to come together and yell about the things we love. Over 400 members later, we're hosting weekly events for the community to collaborate, annual events to celebrate our creativity, and have a wonderful space for us all to just vibe in This wouldn't be possible without all of you, members new and old, from our lurkers and occasional chatters, to those who are here daily. I appreciate each and every one of you for making The Hanged Man what it is! A special shout out to my mod team, both past and present, but particularly to @celestialteapot who has been here literally from the start, supporting, cheering me on, and occasionally wiping my tears. I love you. I couldn't have done it without you Over this whole month we're going to be celebrating with OCxOC Treatfest, our First Anniversary raffle, and some very special messages that we've been collecting to say thank you!

This month our beloved server turns a whole year old, so who better than our dearest Viscountess herself @p0lkadotdotdot for COTM! We know we don't need to tell you why she's such an inspiration to all of us, but the mod team (past and present) will anyway.

Polka isn't just our Viscountess, she's been a continuous inspiration for art and writing. Her example has lead me to improve my own creative endeavours and for that she needs to be celebrated! There have been so many times I've almost given up and if it wasn't for Polka picking me back up be the scruff of my neck I would have! So thank you, I have cherished this last year and look forward to many more!!

It's been a few months with all of you here in THM, and it feels like it was only a few weeks ! You were so quick to welcome all of us here, and without you this server would have never existed nor felt like home ; it fills my heart with warmth and happiness since last summer. But not only that, you are also doing so many things at a time -- in your daily life, in graphic arts, but also writing, and making cosplays, and crafting whole decorative objects !! Not only are you a wonderful writer, a budding artist, and a crafter of many fine things, you also created this entire server that is so very dear to all of us. You are a most excellent creator, and a darling of a person, you deserve it. Beh.

Dearest Viscountess, I cannot thank you enough for putting together The Hanged Man and building such a wonderful community from the ground up. THM is such a boon in my life--not only a much needed creative outlet, but also a place to grow and thrive. You have been the center of it all, the lifeblood that holds all of us crazy goats together, and I could not be more proud of all that you've accomplished. I cannot say thank you enough. I will always be grateful for your presence in my life.

Isolde was looking for an escape, leaving her home and life in Denerim for Antiva City with the hopes of finding new inspiration. The last thing she expected was to walk into a coffee shop themed after characters from her own series of books. Invigorated by the adoration of the owner and his love for the world she created; she endeavours to finish, going back each day not just for the coffee but the man himself. She knows she can't hide forever or run from the feelings she's developing, especially when her new protagonist seems to have taken a striking resemblance to the barista himself.
