As I turn to head towards the front door, I leave the bathroom where you are holding me tight under the warm soapy water, next to the twinkling lights and burning incense. Sounds of laughter and confessions of love reverberate through my mind as I hurry past the bed where we laid pressed against each other. I go through the kitchen; past you standing in front of the window, gazing at me with tears in your eyes and strong arms around my waist as you tell me about your favorite song. My feet slow as I brush shoulders with our dancing forms in the living room; two souls engulfed with passion, swaying carelessly to the slow music. I make my way down the hall, to the entryway you’re standing in. Your arms are outstretched towards me as you beam with love in your eyes and a grin on your face. When I finally open the door and step outside, I see you standing there. The look in your eyes makes my heart stop and my blood run cold. I feel the words echo through my chest, leaving a hollow cavity that I’m scared will never heal. I run to the blacktop and chase the lines down the highway, watching your tail lights fade further and further into the distance. As the burning in my chest deepens my legs give way beneath me and I collapse into a puddle of tears and thundering grief. You’re gone.
