I wrote an essay on what I consider the misinterpretation of White Nights as a romance.

A critique of the dangerous, romantised, misogynistic reading of Fyodor Dostoevsky’s White Nights, misinterpreting the Dreamer’s desperation

I am quite critical of the romantic interpretation, as I do believe it leads to the glamorisation of misogynistic behaviour. That being said, of course many people will interpret the story differently and seeing it as romantic does not necessarily equate to the misogynist sentiments that some have drawn!
