My Project(s)

Well for a awhile now, I have been dealing with Arthritis and fibromyalgia.  It's taken its toll at this point and so here whats happening.

1. I am taking a break from working with my hands for awhile due to the pain.

2. I am going through some medical treatments and what not to get this under control. Because believe it or not, I love what I do.

3. * Organizing my portfolio, on a digital archival level, all the way up to prints for the photo album.

  Visual communications for translating ideas from designers to fabricators, hand sketching for quick visual communications for shops, meetings, and development.

        This was an Ash Tray that I got when I bought my house out in Sonoma County.  I have been holding on to it now for 6 or 7 years.  So this year I decided to refinish it.

I started by hand sanding all the rust and grunge off.  Plus some of the old paint and rough peeling chrome.

- So after sanding it, I used an aircraft grade paint remover and let it soak.

- Next it was primer time.  I used a real nice auto grade white primer and hit about 10 coats on it, And of course with light sanding here and there.

- So priming was done, Now it was paint time.  I choose sky blue for the top and bottom rings.  I left the top handle a smooth machined chromed looked and then the rest turn out glossy black.

- Once I gave it a day or two to sit in the sun and dry, I then hit it whit a glossy clear varnish.  Again, about 5 coats.

I was taking a new way home the other day and starting thinking. This is good. As I am looking at the scenery, I get to see something different, which produced a sub-feeling of enjoyment from seeing the mountains.

On another separate day, I was taking a different way home. Same start, and same end points. After living in the area on and off for the last 19 years, I saw a new eatery, and a business that caters to some of my projects supplies that I require time to time. This was great, a closer place for the same items. Another sub-result in completing the same task.

So where am I going with this? Well, I think that just because theres a quick easy way from point A to point B in any event. Once the basics are understood, thinking and making a conscious decision to try something new is an important exercise we should never stop doing. Others things will come along, not only in finding those new ways to get from point A to point B, but those new paths, keys, doors, and options, etc., have a way of presenting themselves when you make the effort of taking that extra step.

I personally believe that this also keeps the blinders off the mind, and keeps it thinking and making new connections. When you get stuck in the routing of going to work and then coming home same way day after day, the same way day after day, the same way day after day, the same way day after day, the same way day after day, you get lost, those where your five days this week.

Once your at this point, I think it starts slowing infecting other aspects of your life as well. Comfortable is OK to a point, as long as you still have awareness, but complacent, shuts down the brain and the individual.

This photo is back from October 17th 2005. This is a small jig with vacuum holes to that will hold the black 1.4" think veener'd mdf core to the jig.

Next the CNC router follows the program and uses three tool to complete the part, 1. is the 1/4" flat end up cut to remove the unneeded material that's in the way. 2nd is the the 1/2 ball end cutting to add round rover and detail, and then the 3rd one os the 1/2" cutting to add the fline lines and corners.

While working in Healdsburg Ca. at Creative Kitchens and Remodeling in 2006. The shops foreman, Ron George had his 20th anniversry.  20yrs ago he wrote this peom to wife and so I suggested that we engrave in to one of the cabinet doors in his house.
