Simon who is used to the quiet of the submarine. Who's spent weeks alone with just his thoughts and the sounds of the submarine and blood ocean to cut through the silence

Vs the Hail Mary, which is loud. The computer that translates what Rocky says is connected to all the speakers in the ship so Grace can hear what Rocky has to say no matter where he is on the ship "because human hearing bad bad bad statement". And Ryland "middle school teacher" Grace is so used to projecting his voice to a big classroom of rowdy kids that "essentially shouting" is his base setting, and living with an Eridian who can hear a pin drop on the other side of the ship never helped him key into this fact

Now imagine Simon, new to the ship and having the absolute worst time trying to sleep or have alone time with just himself and his thoughts

Because it's never. quiet.

Ever.

"Grace, Rocky want watch human movie!"

"ok Rock, what do you want to watch?"

"more action movie!"

They at least have the decency to turn the volume down for the movie, but Simon can hear every piece of commentary they make

And I could also imagine how this would go in a shipping direction

"Rocky have question about Simon"

"yeah, what is it?"

"does Grace want Simon as mate, question?"

"I- Rocky what??"

"Grace call Simon attractive! Grace also say Simon very smart. Grace say like smart people for mates."

"ok I- ...you got me there Rock."

"Rocky help! Rocky be Grace's wingman!"

"no no, you don't need to be my wingman Rocky."

"Grace get stupid when around Simon, need wingman, statement."

How about a little more?

At first the constant noise annoyed the hell out of Simon

Even when it was supposedly night time, there was always someone up because of Eridian sleeping customs, always making at least a bit of noise

But after a while, he got used to it

And he even enjoyed the noise sometimes

Being able to listen in on Rocky and Grace's experiments from across the ship always gave him a laugh (especially when Rocky was yelling at Grace)

Hearing Rocky's little clicks and hums underneath the translator always made him smile

Listening to Grace ramble about earth and the things he never got to experience fascinated him

But all of the noise and talking helped him not feel alone

He never had the chance to doubt if he was hallucinating, if maybe he was back in the submarine, with no one but himself to keep company, because there was always some sort of noise to drown out those doubts. Some sort of noise to remind him "I'm safe now. I'm not alone"

And he finds a way to rest and relax through the noise

He finds comfort in the little trills and hums Rocky makes when it's his turn to watch over Grace and Simon while they sleep

The long winded rants and rambles Grace went on when talking about something that interested him helped clear his mind of any intrusive thoughts

And sometimes he adds to the noise, laughing loudly at something Rocky said to him or Grace, arguing with the other two about something he's genuinely knowledgeable about, rage baiting Grace over something he doesn't know anything about

I'm writing a fic where Flambae speaks a lot of Dari (might also have him speak Pashto as well, since I looked up what languages Afghan people speak and it mentions Pashto as another language that is spoken a lot in Afghanistan), and I wanna know what other terms of endearment there are besides Azizam, as I want Flambae to use as many terms as possible
