A few months ago we shared NY Mag’s Feminism, According to Stock Photography, a collection of ridiculous photos that miss the mark on women in today’s professional world. We’re happy to report that Leanin.org and Getty Images are partnering to create stock photos portraying women in a more realistic and empowering light.

Some examples here: a woman in a suit looking straight into the camera, a father as caregiver and a tattooed woman working with her baby on her lap. Full article via NY Times.

There was something so compelling about Jacky’s look and energy when we first spotted her in a New York restaurant this winter, we introduced ourselves and pulled up a chair. During a long discussion that touched on everything from career choices and nutrition to insights on relationships, age and beauty, we asked if she would consider being photographed by us. We were thrilled when she agreed.

some new stuff I’m working on, I get tons of anonymous messages like this every day and while this isn’t unique to women, the content of the messages and the frequency in which I get them are definitely related to my gender. I almost exclusively get them after I post selfies. The authority people feel they have to share their opinion on my appearance is something myself and many other girls online deal with daily.

This was much more dramatic for me, as I almost never saw my body with it. It was strange--all of a sudden, I was a different kind of woman.

In an ideal world, no one would regret their informed, consensual sexual choices -- or feel like their sex lives need to fall in line with what's stereotypically "expected" from men and women. Unfortunately, we're not there yet.
