One of my favorite things about Hades is the references to actual mythological theories or finds. I could talk about the funny one on how the game pokes fun at the “Zagreus is Dionysus” theory when in reference to Mycenaean Greece but I wanna talk about a different case of this in regards to Hypnos’ design
SO in the game, Hypnos is drawn with one wing on the right side of his head
I’ve seen people theorize that he only has one wing because Hades ripped off the other one after Hypnos put the rest of the House asleep when Zagreus was snooping around, but this isn’t the real reason he’s designed like this (not bashing on this theory, however, I actually quite like it).
The real reason why Hypnos only has one wing is because of a statue that was found by archeologists in what I believe was Italy.
As you can see in the picture, this sculpture of Hypnos has only one wing on the side of his head, the other wing being lost to time!
I just think this is a really neat nod to real life finds for mythology and wanted to share it :)
