Spirit Animal is racist.
Patronus was invented by a transphobe.
I think it’s time we all suck it up and say what we mean: fursona.
I know this is a jokey post (rip OPs notes) but a fursona is typically an animal REPRESENTATION of YOURSELF, not an external animal that is strongly meaningful to you and your life/journey.
I've seen daemon and familiar proposed, but to keep in line with the cursedness of the original post, may I suggest: spiritual tamagotchi
do you have any idea how refreshing it is to see a correction/suggestion to this post that actually understands the assignment

May 26, 1824 - On this day in 1824, 102 women and girls organized the first factory strike in the United States at Pawtucket’s Slater Mill, a textile factory in Rhode Island. After owners slashed their pay 25% and added unpaid hours (calling their wages “extravagant”), women fought back. The strike grew into a fiery revolt. The girls and women were joined by other working-class sectors and the bosses were forced to finally negotiate. Their defiance ignited a wave of worker uprisings. [link]
The strike spread to seven other mills, and 500 workers walked off the job. And they didn’t just shut down the mills. They went to the owners’ houses, shouted insults at them and broke their windows. A local judge wrote that the streets were, ‘literally filled with Men Women and Children — making a mob of very daring aspect, insulting the managers of cotton mills in every shape — pulling and hauling — screaming and shouting thro the streets.’ On the last day of the strike, one of the mills burned down in a fire probably set by a striker. The owners agreed to a compromise, the details of which are lost to history. On June 3, the strikers returned to work.[source]

found out that the stage managers are going to an alpaca farm in watsonville on juneteenth so now i have another date idea. unrelated i need a new code name for “game design housemate” since he’s not my housemate anymore and we’ve gone on one maybe-date
med people are so annoying "This family's 8 year old child who was about to go through a major surgery and kept crying that she was hungry so they pitied her and gave her food, she then had a heart attack in the surgery. They're so stupid 😒" girl they didn't know that could happen or why it happens. it takes so little time to explain to them that will happen instead of telling them "no food" with no explanation 10 times
"Before surgery, your body’s reflexes that protect your airway are relaxed by anesthesia. If there’s food or liquid in your stomach, it will near certainly come back up and go into your lungs, which can cause choking, a severe lung / heart infection or even a heart attack. That’s called aspiration, and it is life-threatening. It's hard, but it's only a single day to prevent near certain death. Not eating or drinking beforehand massively lowers the risk and helps prevent these life threatening situations under anesthesia." <- TIP: patients have brains which allows them to receive information just like you
I have four kids. I’ve had one or another of them need some kind of surgical procedure that requires anesthesia four or five times over the past 15 years.
This Tumblr post is the first time someone has explained to me *why* I couldn’t feed them before those instances.
I’m not stupid. I understood that just fine. Hell, my kids would have understood that just fine. But no one bothered to tell us.
i did know this before having kids (i have six). we have a kid that's needed multiple procedures requiring anesthesia. and every single time, i am asked multiple times if i'm sure he was not given any food or water after a certain point.
every single time i have had to say, "i understand that if he had food or water, he could aspirate it into his lungs under anesthesia. i am not lying to you." THEN someone would make a little note and i would stop being repeatedly asked.
not a single time was that risk explained to me. the only reason it came up was because i already knew. i still don't understand why it isn't standard pre-op counseling or pre-op check information, when me as a parent acknowledging the actual risk also put THE MEDICAL STAFF at ease because i conveyed that i had informed understanding as reason to not lie about giving my kid food.
"maybe some people will get nervous and refuse surgery" okay so they need more counseling about risks and anxiety, not less information in a way that actually does endanger their child or themselves!
Reblogging to save a life and teach medical professionals basic communication skills
Warren Hern has been performing late abortions for half a century. After Roe, he is as busy with patients as ever.
This was an interesting read. Surprisingly nonpreachy given the subject; and well worth the time.
This is oaywalled but it made me weep with relief to see an honest recounting for once, so I’ve saved some good bits:
bodily autonomy: a radical absolutist ideal
A fun bonus fact for you: those No Longer Buyable DVDs?
They're the ONLY surviving NONDAMAGED form of the show. In the late 90s, the masters from which the show is printed were damaged with a red-pink hazy filter.
So. Good luck buying them even if you find them. They're some of the most valuable collector's items in the entire franchise.
Without piracy, there would be NO UNDAMAGED COPIES OF SAILOR MOON AVAILABLE TO ANYONE ANYWHERE, PERIOD.
Piracy Is Preservation.
i have a suggestion
This is a man loving blog btw. I know this is the man hating site and increasingly the trans man hating site but that shit stops at my borders

what a beautiful, beautiful phrase
ancient roman women whose husband keeps looking at the neighbour's boy quintus and he never looks at her that way and she can't even chainsmoke in the kitchen because they don't have marlboro blues in ancient times. and she can't even go to the club because they haven't discovered drum and bass music yet. her friend clodia's having visions of a woman named doechii but neither of them knows what that means
these are getting weird
unclear. adj. of or pertaining to an uncle
Grand Theft Hamlet is a great movie, by the way, or at least it filled a need I didn't know existed. It's a documentary where a lot of actors in lockdown try to stage Hamlet in Grand Theft Auto Online, getting other people to read various parts, picking places to perform, scheduling rehearsals, picking up some regular people who watch them rehearse, and all the while dodging every other player in the game shooting at them with rockets. It's great.
One thing that especially worked for me, though, was the ghost. This is the first time I really felt it when Horatio begs Hamlet not to follow the ghost. Inside GTA Online, the ghost is in all black except for a ski mask with LED lights in a smiley face, standing on a blimp that Hamlet has to jump down onto from a balcony. Don't follow him, Hamlet!
Anyway, go watch this.
So I did not expect this to be so spectacular, and more fool me. The concept is fascinating, and what you get more than the play is a group of people trying to navigate an adriftness through the timelessness of Shakespeare, where modern conditions and humble truths of human nature clash a magnificent, jarring environment that seems perfectly suited to such a venture.

so many misguided metaphors around violence and desire. if the open maw of a panting beast fills you with the want to be devoured, that does not make you prey. while the rabbit trembles in fear, its deepest desire is to run. evolution demands it. in fact, the desire to be eaten does not make you any small animal at all.
it makes you a fruit.
