As they neared the camp, Cat slowed a bit, glancing around, almost⌠nervously. He looked once at Rosalia, hesitating a a few hundred yards from the cluster of tents, but then just shook his head faintly and walked on. No⌠There was no point in trying to sneak back in. Usually he slunk back into camp unnoticed after these sorts of walks, but thatâd be considerably more difficult with Rosalia tagging along, so⌠He sighed, very faintly. Suppose Iâll just have to face it this time.
And indeed, almost immediately after theyâd set foot inside the camp, there was a familiar voice from their right. Cat jumped a bit involuntarily before turning to look guiltily at Lissa.
"Calm down, Lissa," he muttered, in an attempt at placation. He rubbed the back of his neck and averted his eyes at the mention of Chrom. "I wasnât gone that long. And Iâm fine. See?" He gestured vaguely at his perfectly healthy body for emphasis.
Thankfully, the cleric was distracted with their⌠guest. Cat looked at Rosalia and paused for a moment, faltering. AhâŚÂ The look on her face⌠Cat could see it; the pain that flickered through her eyes. Right⌠This must be⌠difficult for her. He could imagine it; being surrounded by people you knew, and yet they donât know you in return⌠Cat hesitated for a moment, thinking that he ought to say something to comfort her, but heâd never been good at comforting, and there were no words on his tongue.
He ended up touching her arm, a little awkwardly, without really thinking about it. âEr. Lissa, this is Rosalia. RosaliaâŚâ She knew her already, no doubt, but⌠â⌠this is Lissa.â He swallowed and dropped his hand. âI found her in the field to the North. SheâŚâ He hesitated. âWell⌠We should probably sit down and talk about it with Chrom.â
There was another voice then; âHeâs returned his tent, I believe, since he couldnât find you.â
Cat glanced up to see Frederick walking towards them, a javelin balanced against one arm. The great knightâs lips were pressed together in that way that betrayed his irritation. Though he said nothing in Rosaliaâs presence, Cat could tell heâd be in for a scolding later. Well, Frederick the Wary was ever against solo patrols. "Youâre our tactician," heâd say. "You must be more careful about going out alone." Cat had used similar lines on Chrom, but was irked to hear them, nonetheless.
So he cut his eyes away as he greeted the other. âI see. We should go meet with him.â He turned his dark eyes back to Rosalia. âThen we can discuss things properly.â
"I wonât be joining you, as I have the evening patrol with Cecilia." He nodded politely to Rosalia, though his gaze was a little suspicious, and then looked back to the tactician. "But I will report to you later, Cat."
Cat narrowed his eyes a bit and then nodded. As the great knight walked away, he exhaled faintly before turning back to the others. âLetâs go, thenâŚâ
They made their way quickly through the camp before pausing outside of the lordâs tent. Cat rapped once on one of the wooden poles and called out; âChrom?â
((Hope this was okay, orz. Poor Chrom is probably still trying to deal with Emmerynâs death⌠I feel this RP has potential for angst⌠Mmm, angst. =w=))
