Kallista had been out for a few days, but her dreams werenât as they normally wereâthere were flashes of people she knew, some she didnât, and the distinct feeling like she should remember what she saw. Once she woke up, her pounding headache was enough of a distraction to momentarily forget about the strange dreams. She remembered the fight with Niobe and hitting her head when she tried to run away, but everything after was dark. One of the nurses told her sheâd been out for a few days and helped her out of bed to stretch her legs, but sheâd quickly seen Cat on the other side of the room and stumbled toward her, a crying wreck. It didnât take long before she was exhausted again, but settled on a chair next to her sisterâs bed with her head on the edge of the mattress, sleeping off and on while she waited for Cat to wake up.
Cat woke up groggy and feeling confused about where she was. It took her a few minutes to put the pieces together, but she felt like her entire body was sore. Once she realized she was in a bed, she looked over to see her sister sitting next to her, asleep against her bed. She tried to smile, but even that hurt to do, so she tried to speak through her dry throat. âKalli? Hey, what a face to wake up to,â she laughed, then winced from the pain. âOw.â
