This is the Solar Sunflower, a Swiss-made array that could be the future of solar energy. Looking like a huge, mirrored satellite dish, it combines photovoltaic solar power and concentrated solar thermal power to harness the sun’s energy at an efficiency of roughly 80% — a staggering amount. They’re promising but not without complications.

Fincharn Castle, also known as Fionchairn Castle and Glassery Castle, is a ruined 13th-century castle near Ford on the southwest shore of Loch Awe. It was built around 1240 by the Lord of Glassary. The history of Fincharn is uncertian and there are conflicting stories. Legend has it that it was burned down shortly after being built in a quarrel between rival families, and was never really inhabited afterwards. The name, Fincharn is derived from the Celtic Fiannacharn, the “Fingalians’ Mound”, which is the name given to an unusually large burial cairn located on the nearby Fincharn Farm.
