Well, it’s been a month since I posted. Yah. Sorry... BUT, I’m back with everyone’s fave, the sexy Sunday slowjam. This gal Sza (yah, I have no idea how to pronounce that either) was recommended to me by my friend Tony. He’s pretty hip, and he has the lock on the insider East Coast music trends, so I appreciate that. I also appreciate how this lady can sing about pussy for a whole song and make it seem totally normal. Kendrick Lamar, king of the dirty jams, helps too. Anywho thanks for welcoming me back.

Guys, I’ve dug Zappa for a while. And the more I listen to Zappa and learn about Zappa, the more I love Zappa. The dude had a crazy well formulated ethos, shredded the guitar, and was just pretty goddamn funny to boot. Enjoy.

Well, this song seemed a good follow up for Cole’s last post. I really like some of Meg Mac’s stuff. She has a powerful attitude and she plays her own piano, which is refreshing. And she’s Aussie, but she doesn’t really have an accent when she sings, which never makes any sense to me, but is infinitely fascinating. 

Guys, sometimes when you travel you get introduced to new music. That’s what happened here. It’s not some incredible musical development and pretty much sounds like Adele, but who cares cause I love Adele. So thanks, Detroit Public Radio for the introduction, and Montreal for birthing this human.

I can’t promise this will be the last blues song on the takeover. Cole’s back next week in case you’re tired of me! These guys were super fun live, a real highlight of Saturday at the festival. By the way, the name is ironic- there’s only three people making all this noise.

I’m certainly no expert on what exactly classifies you as blues, musically speaking. This sounds like something I’d call Blues Rock. It’s heavy on the rock guitar, but then there’s that harmonica in there. And who doesn’t loves some good harmonica? I sure do. These guys were unexpectedly fantastic live- I’d highly recommend a show if they’re in your area. I’d see them again in a heartbeat!

It’s that time of year again! I’m back from Telluride Blues & Brews, so the Great Blues Takeover on CvC is comin’ atcha! I’m going to kick it off with some pretty classic stuff. Alabama Slim was one of my favorite acts of the weekend. His fantastic blues guitar and steady blues groove really worked for me on Sunday afternoon after a full weekend of variety. The guy’s not young- he’s been in this game for a while. My favorite quote from this soft spoken gentleman was “that’s the blues for you- it can always get worse.” Enjoy this mini-journey into the world of blues over the next couple of weeks!

Due to my general slacker behavior of late, it only feels right to double up with a Sade classic. Let her soothing voice wash over you, and subsequently forgive my absenteeism.

We lost a good one last week, guys. Walter Becker made up 1/2 of Steely Dan’s core, which was constantly surrounded by a rotating cast of the best musicians in the world. A tip of the cap, Walter.

This song is really doing it for me today. The National isn’t always my favorite, but when they nail it, they really nail it. As a side note, we’re not really nailing it lately, but thanks for still tuning in! Look for our now quarterly newsletters:)

I really love this song. I like all the random little singles that Whilk & Misky does. I really wish they’d just make a whole goddamn album instead of releasing one single every six months to a year... really. I mean really guys?

Sometimes, you do something like only listen to one artist for a whole week at a time. This is one of those times. He has a new album that just came out, which is stellar, but I wanted to introduce you all to PJ with this track from his 2010 album. Highly recommend taking a gander at his work.

This is the perfect summer evening song. It’s upbeat and uplifting without being a club track. Plus it has that dreamy summer feel that everyone craves this time of year (right? or is that just me?). I really have no idea what to say about the obscure album artwork, but hey, with a name like Gizmo I guess you’re prone to weird streaks.

Loving Jarryd’s voice on this track. I don’t know why men singing in falsetto is so appealing sometimes. When you think about it, it’s kind of a weird phenomenon... But I think it works well here. 

Fleet Foxes made some new music, and it’s no Mykonos but it still certainly makes for an excellent driving-through-the-mountains-in-fall album...
