she narrowed her eyes and crossed her arms, settling into a more comfortable position in her place of vantage. he had keen senses, and body language that read clear discomfort in the situation. catching her gaze was hard, but making an outward reaction to it was bold.
her stare didn’t cease. if anything, curiosity had gotten the better of the dotharl elder.
Enough. “Did you need something?”
“Now that I’m thinking about….I’ve faced quite a number from different mythologies. There are truths in every story. Let’s hope there are no hydras slithering around the place” He shivered as they took the left corridor. Feeling the line around their wrist pull and drop.
What was so necessary about it?
“Yo…” He gasped as he looked at the wall, eyes squinting to see exactly what he meant.
“HAVE WE BEEN WALKING IN CIRCLES THIS WHOLE TIME!!!”
Ow. His poor eardrums. Ren shook his head in stern disapproval as he tried to imagine Nora in Zack’s place. He would survive. “Possibly. Let’s head back and choose a different direction.”
And as if Ren had planned it, Sooma, who is clearly too focused on what to eat, nearly trips into a pile of burning rubble. Quickly waving his arms around to regain his balance, Sooma takes a few steps back, away from the blazing fire.
He snaps back to Ren and gives him a look of accomplishment, as if not tripping into the flames was something to be proud of.
“That was close! I could’ve really gotten myself hurt!”
Sooma can’t help but laugh at his own clumsiness as he continues to lead the way, despite the fact that he has no general idea where he’s going exactly.
“Are you always like this?” he blurts out.
“You seriously never heard of a Minotaur? The whole a queen got impregnated by a sea cow sent by Poseidon and instead of killing the child and invoking the wrath of a god he leaves the kid in a maze and is fed virgins once a year to satiate his hunger before boring step dad with his man hands and bull horns. kinda dealy? They’re huge, dude and unlike most modern literature they don’t carry axes but instead bone clubs.”
He explained, hoping not one heard him and decided to make a surprise appearance like the secret side-girl of a guy taking a paternity test. Turning his head around to feel any kind of malicious auras. Nope? Okay.
“Now an Empusa.” He said as they walked, “Are crazy as girls with fire for hair and sharp teeth with a taste for blood marinated flesh.They guard roads under the ruling of their lady Hecate who on her own is really an okay gal, don’t play poker with her but these ladies yeesh. You’re walking the streets at night and you hear an uneven clop clohp on the asphalt. You turn around and there they are lighting up their hair and walking on legs that is one half donkey one half metal asking if you go great with vinigar. Homey I’m supple just salt and sugar alrighty?”
He laughed until they reached a fork in the road. Upon the question asked of him he turned towards Ren with wide blank eyes.
“Nope.”
Though he’ll never admit it, Ren actually enjoys Zack’s little speeches; he’s learning about mythology and that’s kind of his jam. A ghost of a smile dances upon his lips as Zack’s presence (and rambling) manage to occupy any would-be concerns.
“Left it is.” And down the corridor he goes, noting that if ever he goes too quickly, the string goes taut and halts his progress at Zack’s expense. Ouch. “Hmm... This actually looks familiar. You saw that pattern of ivy, too, didn’t you?”

silently, she afforded a stare at his knives from across a crowded street. they were better than her pair, a starter set even flimsier than the first pair of weathered baselards she’d swiped in her first days in eorzea. still, a fervent stare was easy to feel on one’s back, wasn’t it?
A prickling sensation drew his eyes towards their corners; he caught sight of someone who had taken a keen interest in him which could either be good or really bad. Thinking he ought to simply ignore it, Ren pockets his wooden replica of StormFlower (useless things) and crosses his arms in a self-comforting gesture.
Ignore it, and it’ll go away.
“Just take it easy. Why don’t you talk to get your mind off things? My name’s Dick Grayson, how about yours?”
Well, it’s certainly kind of him to offer. Ren does his best not to seem ungrateful while his nerves spike.
“Lie Ren. It’s a pleasure.”
Mirror, tell me something. Tell me, who’s the loneliest of all?

{♤} I could’ve made a good use of that gun and the magazine… Frey looks a bit regretful at the dismantled gun, but shakes off the thought. Instead, he subconsciously starts wondering in what kind of school a kid learned to do such things. So far, he related school to anything boring and uninteresting. Dusty books and old grouchy teachers. Frey hated it. All he took with him from his brief time in school, was the ability to read and write. He’s urging his attention back to the still open question. “After all that, I need more than just one. But y'know, I go and sell the loot first. Better getting rid of this now, while I have these assholes off my tail.” Frey rubs his neck thoughtfully. The fired bullet missed it only by a few inches. He was lucky this time, but another time, he might not have so much luck. No need to stretch it more than necessary.
“Guess that means I’ll head for sector 3 now.” Frey hesitates a moment, before continuing. “Well— thanks for helping me with these fellers.” That wasn’t really the thing Frey was going to say, initially. Well, for helping me out, I’ll give you ten percent of the gain. Or something along these lines. The idea of sharing loot with anyone that’s outside of his crew, is a thing Frey dislikes. At least he spent a moment thinking about it. But in the end, the captain is too selfish for that. And aside of that, he feels like this would turn their situation just all awkward again. Frey pauses. He’s is letting it up to Ren, whether he wants to join him to the black-market in sector 3 or not. He made it clear that he’s not going for the drinks just yet. That’s something like a silent invitation to tag along, if the other wanted.
Still a little shaken up from Frey’s outbursts, however, Ren is all too eager to part ways here. He gives the captain a polite nod in farewell.
The phone bequeathed upon him by the scientists is ringing; the alarm set for work isn’t going to stop until he does something about it.

The touch is not well received and Dick immediately retracts his hand once he feels the muscle tense in surprise.
“You’re welcome? Stand up straight if you can.”
Out of habit, he does as he’s told without question. Ren snaps his eyes shut, hoping that alone will quell the nausea.
“Yeah. Yeah, I got it.”
Deep breaths. Okay. Everything’s going to be all right. He opens his eyes again and looks at the strange awkwardly. He already said thanks.
{♤} Frey just watches Ren in astonishment. He clearly didn’t expect that to happen, for many reasons. If anything, he thought the other would try to lecture him. Asking Frey to just return the stolen objects.
Instead, the kid just went one-man army against his opponents. And as expected from that, the last one just turns and runs away in horror as well, to follow his comrades. I think I won’t see them again anytime soon…
Frey leaves the cover, eyebrow raised.
“I have to admit, that was pretty awesome, Kid.”
The praise snaps Ren out of his tranquil fury. He rises to his feet and glances back at Frey in mild surprise, as if he totally forgot the captain was there. I’d almost forgotten what ‘the zone’ felt like.
“It’s what I’ve learned in school.”
After dismantling the gun and casting the magazine elsewhere, Ren dusts himself off and lets out a sigh. Something in his back cracks, too.
“So what now? You’re off to have that drink of yours?”
Heads up about future activity. Though not long enough to warrant a hiatus, I’ll be scarce starting Saturday, March 12th through to Wednesday, March 16th. Sooma-mun ( @souschefyukihira ) is visiting and my folks are gonna put him through the ringer. Expect his activity to decline as well ‘cause he’ll be busy trying to impress The Parents™. Laughs.
Well, at least he didn’t blow her off the side of a cliff. With fire, and maybe some ice. Ivris took the handkerchief and wiped her face, her pale skin lit red with embarrassment. It wasn’t supposed to make anyone sneeze, but people have different reactions to magic.
“That’s right. The magic I use has many different effects. My main use is yes, healing, but it also can be offensive. But it’s not really tuned for offence, only when I need it to be.” She paused and glanced at Ren. “What was that ‘Aura’ you mentioned earlier?”
Trading stories about their respective world’s physics? He can do that.
“Aura is the physical manifestation of one’s soul. It can be manipulated to protect or to amplify. Alongside that, every person has a unique semblance. For example, one of my classmates has super speed. Another is capable of absorbing lightning.”
Ivris nodded as a small, black wave danced across her fingertips. It may have been dark magic, but something about Ivris made it beautiful, graceful, almost shimmering, just like light. She turned up her palm and blew the harmless magic into Ren’s face. It was like black glitter.
“That’s magic. Or at least, my magic. It’s harmless when I want it to be. Not all darkness is evil.” She was hoping to teach him this early so he wouldn’t develop a bias.
Congrats, Ivris, you just made Ren sneeze in your face. How’s that snot feeling right about now? Is it... magical?
Sheepishly, he reaches into his pockets and pulls out a handkerchief for her.
“Huh. When you render it harmless, I suppose its function becomes merely aesthetic?”

Sooma’s seriousness disappears as quickly as it appeared just moments ago as soon as Ren agrees to look for some food with him.
“Alright! I’m absolutely starving!”
Sooma laughs wholeheartedly as he “prances” towards the way out, arms swinging to and fro. His carefree attitude is apparent as he waits by the exit. He turns to Ren with a look of pure anticipation.
“Are you going to stand there all day? I said I was starving!”
Nothing else was on his mind. Never mind the burning, collapsing buildings or the occasional quaking. Sooma just wants to eat!
Ren bites back the pointless sigh and marches after Sooma, keeping an eye out for anything that could fall and whack some sense into that boy’s head. Next thing you know, he’ll run right into an open fire.
Dick steps out of his vomit zone.
“Take deep breathes.” He reaches over to gently tap at his back.
The touch comes as a genuine surprise and every muscle in his back tenses up like a cat raising on its haunches.
Shallow breaths come out instead but they still get the job done. “Thank you?”
