Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and Rhetoric
If you've ever taken a highschool English class then you've probably heard about the three modes of persuasion: Logos, Ethos, and Pathos. No good argument or speech solely relies on one, you need a combination of the three, which is why I think it's really interesting and neat that the triumvirate are a great representation of each.
Spock is the easiest. When he argues, he almost always argues from the side of logic. Whatever is the most rational choice is his go-to, which is why he represents Logos.
McCoy, of course, best represents Pathos. He's emotional and passionate, he appeals to your sense of empathy, anger, and pride. He's the quickest to act on his emotions.
Finally, Kirk is Ethos. As the captain he is already granted a certain amount of credibility. He has the most political sway on the ship, and in every decision he makes he has to factor in not only his position, but the responsibility he has for his crew.
This is why it's so important that they're together. Every conversation they have on the bridge is a conversation between rhetorical triangle stakeholders. They need each other to balance each other out and make sound decisions.
Also every interaction they have is a rhetorical appeal and that is so so cool.
