Clark tapped his recorder, which contained a soundbite that was formalized, perfectly rehearsed, perfectly recorded, and likely to produce a perfectly boring article if not enhanced by whatever leads Lois had wrangled out of the party. He had faith in her. "So we're all set. All good."

"Are you sure everything's alright?" Lois asked, her eyes narrowing. "You have that pinched look you get when you listen in for critical information and get some guy telling his wife that she's a naughty kitty."

This was what happened when you kept working with your ex-girlfriend who happened to be an investigative reporter.

"No, it's fine," Clark said, wishing he had a drink so he had something to do with his hands and his apparently pinched mouth.

"If you say so."

He wasn't about to tell Lois that he'd kissed Lex Luthor in the hallway by the stairwell. Or Lex had kissed him. Semantics, which hardly seemed to matter now.
