But even the scene where Agatha comes to Watford, at the end of Carry On, was a late addition. Agatha wasn’t part of the ending in my first draft. She was lying in her bed at her parents’ house, dreaming of Lucy Salisbury.

I kept thinking that I didn’t know what to do with Agatha — and then realizing that I had to do something with Agatha. And then she became absolutely essential to the larger story.
