Cassie had settled in to life in Ireland really well. Christmas had been lovely, getting to know everybody from her motherâs side of the family, and then New Year had been one big party and her cousins had dragged her out to the local pub. Sheâd had such a nice time, feeling happy and free for the first time in a while, and it felt like sheâd had just the right amount of alcohol. Right on the bells, she was grabbed by a cute guy and got a New Yearâs kiss. Not what sheâd been expecting but it was nice enough and made her laugh. She didnât get his name or his number because then her cousins were dragging her away again, and she lost sight of him.
It was about a week into the New Year and Cassie had already found a really promising job prospect. There was a teaching position at the local high school going and sheâd just had a pretty great interview. She was feeling really good about it and she text her dad and Thomas afterwards. She text Jasonâs number too but she didnât expect a reply - though she was certain it was him who had called her months ago. But she shoved those thoughts to the back of her mind as she moved into a small coffee shop, ordered and then took out a book and sat down.
She was another chapter in when the voice rang out in front of her, asking if they could join her.
Cassie lifted her gaze away from the pages of the book she was engrossed in, blinking as she was looking back into the eyes of that guy from New Year. Her cheeks immediately reddened and she couldnât help but smile at him. âUh, hey..â He smiled back as she gestured for him to sit in the empty seat opposite her and closed her book. He led the conversation, told her he was happy heâd found her again, asked for her number, asked how her year had been so far.. and Cassie opened up, she talked and she smiled and she laughed and it felt pretty natural. It was nice.Â
When it was time for them to leave the coffee shop, they realised theyâd gotten so engrossed in their conversation that they hadnât even bothered to properly introduce themselves yet. Cassie found it hilarious and once they were standing outside, ready to say goodbye for now, he held out his hand and gave her his name. She shook his hand in return, smiling, and already couldnât wait until they spoke again.
âCassie... itâs really nice to meet you, David.â

Cassie had always known that coming back here was a mistake. She shouldnât have accepted the job at the school and told herself that she could settle back down here in hte first place. She was still reeling from everything with Jason and Sasha going the way it had -- sheâd never be able to understand him again but she did miss him. She was over her dad and Paisley. She just didnât care what they did anymore, not that she was going to stay up to date on it either.
She made her plans with her motherâs extended family in Ireland, booked her flight, quit her job and sent goodbye messages to everyone who would even notice when she didnât come back. Then she packed her stuff, arranging with Chris to get the rest of her things shipped over once she was settled - and she made her way to the airport to catch her flight.
She was finally looking forward to Christmas, knowing sheâd have these people to get to know and maybe learn more about her mother and her motherâs life. Sheâd always thought Ireland was beautiful and she was quite excited. She sent a few more goodbye texts while she was waiting to board the plane and then she was boarding. Finding her seat, she pulled out a book, though she could hardly concentrate. Cassie had enough on her mind but she was excited and, for the first time in a while, genuinely hopeful.

harold-jonesâ:
Harold nodded, knowing that he would do whatever he had to, to make it up with her. Especially if she was leaving. Even if it meant he had to end things with Paisley. He wanted Cassie to know that she came first in his life. He laughed at her calling him old man, moving to open the door to the coffee shop for her. âAlright, alright.â
Cassie figured that maybe if they could at least mend some bridges then they could keep in touch when she moved to Ireland. She didnât have a mother, no matter what had happened itâs not like she didnât want to have a father... she smiled lightly, ducking into the coffee shop and moving up to the counter, eager for the caffeine hit.
harold-jonesâ:
Harold nodded softly, looking over at her. âNot everyone is meant to stay in one place forever.â He agreed. He smiled at her comment about wanting them to be okay before she left. âNothing would make me happier.â He admitted. âI know I havenât always been the father you deserve.â
Cassie was glad that he seemed to understand it. She probably shouldnât have even come back here after college but she supposed some good things had come from it all. Anyway, she looked over at him and shrugged. âWell, you can just... make it up to me now.â Or whatever. âNow, hurry up old man, I need a coffee.â
cassiesjonesâ:
âI was thinkingâŚâ Cassie ventured, biting her lip gently. âThat maybe Iâd move out there⌠next year sometimeâŚâ
Harold looked at her, surprised. âOh, really?â He knew over the summer she had thought about leaving but he thought sheâd changed her mind.
"Yeah... I just... I know I said I wanted to stay but I don't feel like I... Belong here anymore." Cassie admitted, shrugging. "But I do want things to.. be okay with us.. before I even think about making plans..." She went quiet, walking with her arms crossed. "I need my dad.."
cassiesjonesâ:
âI was⌠actually thinking Iâd go to Ireland.â She shrugged. âMumâsâŚâ She paused, never finding it easy to even think about her let alone talk. â..got family there I donât think I see enough, soâŚâ
Harold wasnât surprised that she didnât want to spend it with him and he just nodded. âIâm sure they would love that.â
"I was thinking..." Cassie ventured, biting her lip gently. "That maybe I'd move out there... next year sometime..."

âCoffee you and me?â He questioned, looking over at her for a moment. Thomas wanted to catch up and he needed someone help with something. More like advice really.
âDefinitely.â She grinned up at him, nodding. âI feel like I havenât seen you enough lately, where you been hiding?â

âHey.â She smiled over at Cassie for a moment. âAre we eating in or picking up?â
âHey.â Cassie smiled back lightly, shrugging. âUh, picking up...â She paused, watching her for a second. âHowâve you been?â
harold-jonesâ:
Harold sighed, dropping it for now.  âDo you have plans for the holidays?â
âI was... actually thinking Iâd go to Ireland.â She shrugged. âMumâs...â She paused, never finding it easy to even think about her let alone talk. â..got family there I donât think I see enough, so...â
