Apparently, this husband and wife who were friends of my grandparents once went to a costume party with the type of costumes that one would only see in a community of literature professors. She had her dress covered with pink rubber gloves. He was wearing purplish blue and had wine labels all over him. If anyone asked, they said they were rosy-fingered dawn and the wine-dark sea.
