Doesn’t Suck Spinach Protein Smoothie
So I made this high protein spinach smoothie for breakfast (you know you’re probably making poor life choices when you go to make a spinach smoothie and realize you don’t know yourself anymore)...and surprisingly, it didn’t suck. AT ALL. In fact, I’m adding this one to the regular stable.
IT’S SO EASY.
Note: both the ice cubes & the gelatin are optional, but the ice cubes make it colder & pack that punch that makes it feel like real food.
WTF Is gelatin and why you should be drinking it. This is gonna sound gross, but I promise, it’s not. Gelatin comes from the bones of animals...literally think of it as flavorless powdered beef or chicken stock. Gelatin (and glycine / collagen) is a building block for bone, joint, skin and gut health - it can even help repair leaky gut syndrome (intestinal hyperpermeability). I’ll let these guys go into the full details, because they can do it much better than I can, but it’s FASCINATING. I’m sold.
The gelatin is tasteless, only 43 cals per serving, and packs 11g of protein to help you keeping fuller, longer. This particular kind (Great Lakes Gelatin Collagen Hydrolysate) is cold water soluble so that you can "hide" it in whatever drink you're having. It’s also easier to digest than the straight up gelatin one, so if you’re new to the game, start with the collagen hydrolysate (green label). If you buy gelatin, make sure it comes from grass fed cows!
You can also learn more about it & how to make your own bone broth here, but that method takes much longer (but is super helpful & delicious if you’re making soups or want to switch things up!)
Still confused? Think of it like a protein packed vitamin for your skin, bones & digestion!
